There's been a fair amount of criticism of Roy on here and it is true the home form has been very disappointing. But last year some of the football we played was the best since rejoining the premiership. So I think it is more down to the players available and the formation used rather than the manager himself that is the issue.
It is clear that we struggle where the opposition defence are behind the ball and thrive when the football is unstructured.
With the possible exception of Milo we don't have any really good passing midfield players, and while Cabaye had his limitations his passing was generally very good. I understand why Roy plays Schlupp because with his left foot he adds balance to the team and is the only midfielder with real pace but his passing is probably the weakest part of his game. You can probably say the same for Van Aanholt. Then you add Wilf who is a maverick on the wings who tries things and regularly loses the ball but then wins us so many penalties with his trickery.
Unless we get a different type of player in midfield who can take and make a pass comfortably we are going to continue to be like this.

Of course there is a practical argument.

And it's based around people having an inflated view of the abilities of the squad and the merits or otherwise of Max Meyer, and the way they are managed.

really, I didn’t mention any individuals I merely said our team are capable of playing a different style of football given the chance.

You use the top 2 clubs as a comparison to the way Palace play. Are you being realistic in doing so ?

no I didn’t, I said the top two teams play in a certain way, I didn’t compare us to them, I said they are successful by pressing high up the field and having a fluid attack

The Premier League has become a League within a League. Take a look at the table and the gap between the those top 2 and then the next 4 clubs. Then look at the gap between 6th and 7th place. The top 2 have the resources and players available that make their systems work for them.

so are their players so much better and fitter that they alone can press high up the field. I’m pretty sure our players could do that

Like it or not, the Pardew and FDB argument is relative to this discussion. Those appointments were both made with the intention of changing the style of football. Pardew had limited success and FDB - well, not given a real chance but recent history suggests that Parish was right to take early action.

not sure I understand your point, I made the point that they were failed experiments because of their flaws.

I'm encouraged by your acknowledgement of Hodgson's defensive organisation. I don't fully agree that he is stifling talent. AWB is progressing well. Townsend has performed far better under Roy than he did under the manager that signed him, Pardew. Zaha would have had a more consistent season had he not have been played out of position when required. We lack flair players in midfield.

The jury is divided when it comes to Meyer. But his inability to hold down a regular place is being blamed solely on Hodgson which I think is unfair.

i didn’t mention Meyer at all so not sure what you mean, however my own opinion of Meyer is that he is very talented but needs to settle in the PL.

Hodgson is by no means perfect. Could he do better ? - Yes. The home form and overall performances have been dire overall and I think this is clouding people's judgement. The 2 performances against Brighton were hugely disappointing.

i couldn’t agree more with this paragraph

But I'll say it again - the dividing lines in our part of the league are thin. If we had taken 6 points from Brighton we would be above West Ham and 11th. And Brighton would be in the bottom 3.

not sure of the relevance of something that didn’t happen

If Steve Parish decides to part company with Roy in the summer, that's his decision to make. Ultimately he is a businessman with a lot of money at stake. And that's when the emotion has to come out of it. He may well decide that his investment is in safe hands under Roy....

fair comment but I don’t want to watch that rubbish year in year out and im sure there are lots of fans who feel the same way. I don’t think Roy is a bad manager, I would just prefer someone else with a more proactive approach. As I said originally the next manager is crucial to how Palace develop as a team

Brilliant away performance? Don’t think so.

But I agree that if we wanted to change manager I’d rather have found one first rather than having no idea after parting company.

One day the Roy Out brigade will appreciate the job he is doing. 12th in the table sitting above a lot of he managers you lot would want to manage us.
We have had a lot of the season without a striker and remember back to when we could only call on Soerloth for a substitution.
We are a few players short of a very good side but are certainly not there yet. Stop getting carried away with yourselves and thinking we are better than what we are.

We are now ahead of Howe, Dyche and Benitez in the table yet some of you would prefer them as our manager. Why??

I think Hodgson is a pretty good fit for us at the moment. I'm not sure there are many, if any, managers out there who: a) could do a good job for us, b) would want to come to us.

Your words. Where's your evidence that this is how he thinks ?

Sorry but you are talking bollix.

No he isn’t.

With the first part at least. I think Parish is fairly happy in his current role.

Re the first point he has absolutely no long term joined up thinking with how he runs the club.

Once again we addressed our issues this year with loans.

When you need to get loans in year after year to be first teamers, it tells the story.

We are firefighting every year.

Btw where is our new stadium exactly?

Rubbish.

It was a brilliant end result, it was not a brilliant performance. It was another crap performance. Newcastle had 18 shots, we had 3.

We had one shot on target, which was a penalty.

When you win 1-0 after having 1 shot on target, a set piece, then you were damn lucky.

When you claim that is a brilliant performance you look downright foolish.

Yes he is.

Steve Parish has no intention of selling his share and Rudi was second guessing based upon - nothing.

I've been very critical of him in the past, and yes he makes mistakes. I'm in a better position to understand his thinking these days.

So, Parish is doing a lousy job in your eyes as is the manager.

Must be tough being so bitter all the time, but that's your problem.

I'm off out to celebrate 3 points and Premier League football next season.

Have a nice day

Its results that win points, not necessarily performances.
I am sure Toon supporters would prefer to play as we did, if they had won. How many times have we battered teams at home and lost or drawn.
