With my European hat on I would not like any special terms with the UK as other members may leave and try to do the same. However a Wilson type political solution would be a 're-packaging' of the single market and of free movement too and they would be essentially the same but it would be presented as a UK triumph flag-waving etc etc. So we would leave the EU actually but not in effect. Free movement is simply enabling people who do not have jobs in one country to another which where there are jobs for them, that's all it is.

I would prefer to do a deal with the constituent countries separately, because the Peruvian economy is completely different to the Brazilian, and a blanket one-size-fits-all deal would not adequately leverage the unique interfacing of two economies without excessive compromise to (for example) a pissy Argentina that's getting upset we won't make concessions on "Las Malvinas". Much better to have a deal that is tailored to the interests of the Peruvians without concessions to the Brazilians, along with a deal tailored to Brazil that does not have to make concessions to the Peruvians. Meanwhile, the plodding EU is still no closer to an Australian trade deal because of Italian tinned fcuking tomatoes. The EU-Canada deal was hamstrung because of Romania getting pissy about Canadian visas. Can you explain why there should be any "evidence" of UK trade deals when the EU forbids us making any? Have you noticed how they throw their toys out of the pram when it becomes apparent we are currently negotiating our own deals? Pathetic control freaks. They know we can do this, and we can thrive without them. You'll find plenty of news articles about the nations currently queuing up to sign trade deals with us when we're unshackled. I'd trust the Tories do it considerably more than the party now backed by a Communist Party of Britain that, for the first time in 97 years, will not be fielding candidates.
In terms of evidence of desire of other countries to do deals I've seen plenty of articles saying Boris or some other politician has claimed that, but no actual details, just hot air. In terms of my south american, you're right it would be much better for us to be able to negotiate individual agreements as we'd be in a stronger position than if we had to negotiate with the entire continent as we'd then be in a weaker position relatively. We'd have to make more concessions. The flip side would be having access to the entire continent and not just a single member. If indeed other countries are queuing up it's not to do us a favour. They will be seeing it as a chance to take advantage of our new situation and secure a better deal for themselves than they could have got with the EU. This won't necessarily be a reciprocally better agreement. Also free movement of capital is much more damaging than free movement of labour, and that's what you want us to move towards.

Whereas Labour's and its supporters 'ring' has been exhaustively pounded into mush after all that continual yearly bending over for your EU love affair. Corbyn's pitch on Labour's EU negotiating position is political suicide...He makes us look so weak...then again he's made quite a success of that. Middle England is just going to give him the biggest two fingers since Foot. Edited by Stirlingsays (25 Apr 2017 4.52pm)

Rather than risk the talks being dragged downward into spite and oneupmanship he would be starting them on a higher, more responsible and benign level. Setting the standard. We have the 1,000,000 Brits in the EU to consider too and their well-being or don't they matter?

What annoys me is that some Tory MPs have been allowed to lambast Kier whatshisface for not saying he'd protect ex pats in the EU (when the press release does) and not get pulled up on it.
