OK but I'm trying to remember a Mail story which wasn't dismissed. I haven’t commented on a Mail story for a while, certainly don’t every day and never do on sport, finances fashion, entertainment etc. So there must be 100s of stories not dismissed. Take your pick. Believing what you say to be true doesn’t mean it’s not a lie! That would be a great defence if it were.

Fashion, sport, etc., maybe not but any political story... It’s just untrue. There are political stories there today (I just looked) which I haven’t commented on anywhere. I don’t regularly look at the website. The only time I comment is when someone here uses their story as the justification for an opinion and having read it can see how it’s been spun.

The content is unimportant compared to the source.

Not only because it a right wing rage pretending to be a newspaper but because I have an inside track on it. My friend, who used to work there, was quite high up in the editorial team. He is a complete professional, able to take raw copy, rewrite it in the house style, extract the political points the paper would want to emphasise, remove those it didn’t and condense it to fit the space allocated. His personal politics are far removed from those of his employer but those were left at home. He though was very cynical about the paper and shared stories and frustrations. How he did it I don’t know. Why is easy. He was very well paid and good at his job. No doubt others are as biased, but my friend didn’t seem to think so.

Here are some more Republicans with views on Trump that differ from the MAGA crowd. There are some interesting and intelligent observations here, notably that during a second term Trump would not be restrained by the need to keep the voters onside. Any idea of staying in power for longer than the next 4 years would require him to assume extraordinary powers. There are several others though. It’s worth watching, if only to hear at first hand the division that exists in the USA:-

This video is hitting the rounds again and is a timely reminder of what Trump is really about:-

I'm hearing that EU nationals and Europeans are being told to leave Iran. Not good news if true.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Human shields put in military targets Edited by HKOwen (03 Aug 2024 9.49am) Hopefully just precautionary given the unpredictability of Iran. I hear though that the Iranians will do all they can to avoid an escalation as they know they are incapable of competing and are facing political challenges at home. So any escalation would more likely come from Israel. Is that really possible at the moment? Would the Biden WH allow it during the election cycle?
