Hmm, now let me think about that one. Could it possibly be because their players at youth level are a lot better than ours? Abraham and Foden were on the club's books at 8 whilst Mount was 6. Unfortunately Palace was probably skirting administration around then. Citeh and Chelski were fighting at the top of the PL. Think we might need a fair few years before we see a steady stream from the academy. Edited by Booted Eagle (15 Nov 2019 5.18pm)

Perhaps we don't have the quality of youngsters they possess and of course circumstances play their part. In terms of Chelsea, the homegrown players they have used this season have had successful loan spells away, albeit at a lower level IE Abraham, Mount,James,Mount,Reece. So good you named him twice

A stodgier, more predictable Palace I don't think I've seen in a good while. No pace, no invention, negative, no goals... Tend to agree totally sadly

We are unquestionably in a better league position than when Roy took over. That is a statement of the obvious. However, from a squad strength/squad age perspective, I would say we've gone a long way backwards. Who knows who's at fault for that. But if Roy hasn't been screaming about the need for rejuvenation, then he's not been pushing the club's best long-term interests hard enough.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

Results have far exceeded my expectations this year. We've been a bit better than I'd expected, especially Ward, and had some fortune. I actually think we will improve our form soon, although the luck probably won't last. But results don't alter realities that we have -- for reasons unclear -- gone backwards on many levels since Roy came. The causes could be many...excessive conservatism by Roy and/or Steve P, or the yanks losing interest and blocking decision making. Hard to know who's at fault.

Our form will improve I'm sure but results may not match it unless our good luck continues. I just want to see more legacy from our longest spell in the top division before the inevitable. Just how long can the Main Stand stay upright in it's current form!!

70 pages of thread here, all undercut by a polite cursory summation of our season in a couple of sentences from Jurgen Klopp (see his pre-match comments). Roy's got more out of the team by getting a better understanding between the players, he's had to because we did not manage to make necessary changes during the last window - hopefully we hire and fire better in Jan.
