Religion has never really interested me, but a point ill make talking to an imaginary friend is considered strange yet talking to God is not strange??? No-one has proof that either exist so why the double standerds?

Everyone can put their opinion across as forcefully as they like, no-one is 100% sure of their theory, there's always a what-if factor with this kind of question. Religion provokes a lot "what-if" questions which lead to misguidence in my opinion.

Goodness me, what did I start?! Right, firstly, the "what is a Christian?" question. God may not be here in person now, but he WAS 2000 years ago, and he is still very much in control of the world. There are so mnay more good things in the world than bad things, so many things that we all have to be thankful for. I can't imagine thinking that I'm here because of one big fluke, I'd imagine it would make place much less value on my own life. Edited by rach_d_cpfc (07 Jan 2005 3:14pm)

So my great-grandparents could've met God? And how can we know God is a "he"?

God may not be here in person now, but he WAS 2000 years ago Rach, the muslims believe that Jesus was a prophet of Allah - it is just a different interpretation. Who knows who is correct?

So my great-grandparents could've met God? And how can we know God is a "he"? So I missed a zero! Edited now. The Bible refers to God as He so I'm happy to go along with that. Quote Singapore Eagle at 07 Jan 2005 3:22pm

It's not about completely understanding all those things - if you could understand it all then you would be God - but about having faith. Edited by rach_d_cpfc (07 Jan 2005 3:14pm) It's scary not having answers to big questions like why are we here, where did we come from and what happens when we die? The God idea is a nice one as it isn't too difficult for us humans to get our heads around and it provides reassurance that there is life after death. The fact that there's no evidence to support this theory doesn't matter because believers simply argue that it's a matter of "faith" and "of course it doesn't make sense... if you understood it you'd be God". If people take comfort from such delusions then who am I to burst their bubble? Personally, I think the meaning of life will turn out to be a little more complicated than the God created everything theory.

I'd disagree that there are more good things in the world right now than bad. The world is full of heartache, pain and destruction and will probably get worse before it gets better. God won't help us to rebuild people's lives after war, tsunami's, earthquakes and starvation. We have to do that ourselves. A God that allows all this to happen surely can't exist, and if he did, would be nothing but a waste of space. I love you to bits Rach, but I wish you'd open your eyes a little wider sometimes.

I completely agree with everything Rach said. Yellabubs, what is it that you don't understand about Christianity, I will do my best to explain it from a Christian's perspective.

JCreedy you are right, the world has much more bad in it than good, and it is getting worse. The Bible predicted it would, and now we see the prophecies coming true.
