Why are you so keen on selling him?

Who wants to sell him, it just means his value instantly increases.

I'd say Wharton has a great shout now that he has a chance to impress Southgate in training considering who he is up against.

The most similar players to partner Rice would have been Phillips and Henderson, but neither made the cut.

Gallagher has played quite well there of late but has nowhere near the technical ability of Adam. Jones is 23, has 20 caps for U21 without being called up to the senior squad and is not a first choice for Liverpool. Mainoo played well on his debut but is a more attacking player with relatively little defensive ability. TAA is an option but is still defensively frail and cannot provide his forte long balls from out wide as a DCM. Unless Southgate decides to move Bellingham back to fit Foden into the centre of the pitch, it's Wharton's to lose on fit and ability (not that I'm biased!)

I am also biased, but agree. Rice and Bellingham are nailed on starters. Personally I think Wharton would compliment them the best.

V surprised that Mitchell hasn't got a chance, may go into the tournament without a left back which feels a bit silly

sorry to be pedantic but it's complement (unless you are saying Wharton will say nice things about them)

Well done to the guys for making the provisional squad. I hope they all make the last 26. Even if not, it is great recognition for the form of the entire team over the last few games.

I also have to give kudos to Southgate for picking players in form, and not just on reputation / those "from the big teams". To be fair to him, he has done what he said he would do. Lets hope for some exciting footy this summer.

Mentioned on Sky that this season Eze has more goals & assists than Rashford & Grealish combined.

Very well done to the Palace boys that have been called up. I agree with most of Southgate's choices, although With England struggling for a fit left back, Trick was unlucky to miss out. Also don't agree with Curtis Jones. I would have thought Harvey Elliott deserves it more than him.

Given the shortage of fit left backs, I think this means his international career is probably done. He does try hard but the last couple of away games he was poor defensively and although he supports well in attack has trouble finding the right pass on a consistent basis and isn't much of a goal threat - though props to him for getting one the other day
If we want to push on, I'd like to see him next season as a back-up wing-back or central defender

Southgate likes his tried and trusted players, so dont surprised to see Saka or Grealish playing left back as he tries to squeeze all his big name players in the team.

Which is why he left Rashford, Sterling and Hendo out of his squad and included the likes of Wharton, Quansah, Branthwaite etc.

LB is a problem position but quite frankly, Mitchell isn't the answer - he got roasted in the friendly against Switzerland and lacks confidence in PL games so what would he be like in a meaningful tournament?
