Hang on in the PL for another couple seasons, the big boys will almost certainly jump ship to some form of Super League in due course, the PL will then reflect a League more suitable for a club of our means.

I’m beginning to think this would work well, especially if the Super League took var with it. I find myself watching more Championship football than PL when Palace are not playing these days as I prefer the flow of the game. Personally, I would have little interest in watching Super League football as I do with European football now and you just know the cost of watching it would be horrendous anyway.

On Liverpool he was appointed in Summer 2010 - got knocked out of the League Cup by the mighty Northampton Town and was sacked in January 2011 - replaced by caretaker Manager Kenny Dalglish..!! What on earth are you going on about..!! If you are going to come back at me cite Fulham or West Brom - where he did an OK job - but that’s as much as you could say..!! COYP There is no comparison between Roy's England or Liverpool and the current teams. Anyone who knows anything about football knows that much. Meanwhile, you can whinge about Hodgson all you like but anyone wanting us to stay up will be supporting him and the team until he is replaced.

It'd be a disaster - as much chance of sliding down as sliding up. The academy costs a fortune to run as well. It'd be like having a new office block with no tenants. Edited by ambrose7 (12 Feb 2024 10.57am)

I get the appeal. would be nice to win more often instead of just 10 wins a season. Ive only seen us win live twice in the last year and a half and thats over 16 games for me. the two west ham games last season.

Relegation would a terrible fate after 11 years in the top flight both in financial terms and for the future well being of the club. We could not guarantee allan immediate bounce back as the author has suggested because as other have already said we would lose our 7/8 quality players and will then be left with the unproven, sick notes and bunch of players who would struggle to make a championship squad. The rebuild of the team would take years and we may well further down the football pyramid like other have done before us when a team has been allowed to slowly decline because of disagreements amongst its investors. Palace rightly belong in the EPL. Any suggestion otherwise is senseless and this really is a silly thread!

As the OP, I did not guarantee promotion (who could) but you don't just lose players you sell them and can re-invest. The only players that are out of contract are the poorer ones like Ward and Schlupp. All the best players are on longer-term contracts unless they have release clauses: hence the income Leicester 'lost' Maddison, Barnes, Tielemans and Castagne and their icon, Vardy, was cleatly in the twilight of a Premier league career (he scored 3 league goals last season). Their highest-profile signing for this season was probablyHarry Winks who cost them 10 million, Don't bother looking at the foot of the Championship table to see how they must be struggling. They are 11 points clear at the top

You are right - that Roy may have had more quality and depth at his disposal. But the common denominator you are missing and completely overlooking is that he still didn’t make best use of those resources and under achieved - hence he got sacked..!! Which is exactly the same position/scenario we are in now..!! We all want us to stay up - but think you’ll find your support and confidence in Hodgson being a positive factor in us achieving that scenario is very much in the minority - see my straw poll thread for confirmation/validation..!! That is your problem, you dont know, when the club is run properly. Lets look at the previous owners. "sound financial shape" ok babes, ok... when Parish is out and we have a chairman who has some money to spend, which will happen in the future... we will look back and think "parish had ten+ years in the prem and did what exactly?" anyways, you'll come back with something, you always do - but I ain't playing your games - I want parish out, that's my opinion - he's holding the club in limbo.. that's not enjoyable as a fan. Cheers...
