It happened. You deny it because like all Hodgson apologists you have to bend the truth to argue the case for a failing manager

Respect is earned, yes, trouble is you have none & therefore neither do we towards you. Still, generally, keyboard warriors like you, lead an insular life, never mind, eh.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

I say give him a start and decent chance to shine against Chelsea. Pass the ball to him and let him run at them with Mateta and Edouard both getting forward for his crosses. Let’s be positive. Edited by XKudu (11 Feb 2024 2.20pm)

We’ve had 19 days to practice our preferred line up against Chelsea in the absens of Eze and Olise. Safe to assume Richards will slot in for Guehi and Lerma will be one of the DMs. Ozoh has earned his place as the other DM and Mateta will play up front. That being the case Ayew, Wharton and Franca would surely be preferable to Hughes and Sclupp. Edouard on the bench either as a replacement for Mateta or wide left with Ayew moving to the right to replace Franca later on ( not 85 mins please Roy). Ahamada would be an alternative on the bench. We have options but our weakness is that none of them have had much game time because the same 11 started so often even when they’ve not been playing well. Roy can either be adventurous for a change or stick with Hughes and Schlupp and hope to nick a 0-0.

This struck me too. They did switch after half time and Anderson singled him out a couple of times, once from a free kick just in front of our goal and Fanca was out on his own. When he had the ball he looked dangerous, but then Woy took him off after 60 minutes Every time he gets an 8 minutes at the end of a game, when all is already lost, he has a punt at goal. He was tearing up the Man City defence, he had a shot on goal against Chelsea, he won the free kick for Eze to waste against Everton, but he isn't getting the time. He just needs to be on the pitch for longer and who knows what will happen. Edited by RichardJP (11 Feb 2024 7.17pm)

It definitely felt like nobody was passing to Richards at the Brighton match though. The rest of the team obviously think he's the weak link too.

Schluppy does pose somewhat of a goal threat though...pops up with a few precious goals here and there. Reckon he might do the same against Chelsea!

I understand the point you are making and you are right about mourinho as an example but then there are the other sides of the coin where Vieira wouldn’t play Eze and look how he has been since Vieira left. So yes the truth is none of us know until we see the evidence on the pitch.
If we don't then it's just a repeat of defend, defend, clear the ball to no one, defend, defend, clear ball to no one ad nauseam. In light of our current injury situation, I think the boy deserves a chance to show what he can do. He has pace and control, is undisciplined yet may still create something of the unexpected. I'd like to see Ahamada used too, to utilise his ability to run with the ball at pace. We need to make a positive out of all the injury negatives. It's an ill wind that blows no good...

Ahamada needs to do more to impress me. When I saw him 2 or 3 games ago playing on the flank, I was shocked how someone’s touch and pass could be so poor at this level.. Let’s hope that was a one off but I now will be watching him with a critical eye.

I say give him at least 40 minutes. Overall I'm more supportive of Roy's judgment than not, but I don't understand the purpose of subbing someone for the final 10 or even 15 minutes. It takes time to get in the flow of the game, and it's only fair in either attack or defense that a player has multiple chances rather than only the handful that arise in a 10-minute cameo.

He has one goal and one assist in 20 odd appearances this season. He seems to have lost a bit of power in his runs and shots. He's not winning as much in the air either. He's never been that great technically and gives the ball away a lot. I really don't see the argument for him anymore. As always, if he starts I'd be delighted for him to prove me wrong. I'm starting to think Franca will start tonight. I've never had any belief that he would previously, but if Roy has read the crowd he might finally relent and give the crowd what they want. He always seemed to allow for one player that was a luxury and who he knew would unlikely break a sweat to defend, that being Wilf in the past and Eze in the current setup. Maybe he'll allow Franca to be that man tonight? Surely Roy is long enough in the tooth to know that sometimes you have to give the crowd what they want. If the crowd see Franca is in from the start it could really change the mood. Everyone seems excited about our new signings and if we see our little Brazilian making his first start then it gives people something to be optimistic about. If Roy sticks with the same old ideas he has to get a result or things could turn really ugly. I think people would be more forgiving if he tried to change things up and we lost.
