It seems Palace are genuinely interested in him which raises the Roy issue again. Why pay good money for a 19 year old everyone knows won’t get a game under Hodgson? Wharton is inexperienced, has only been playing First Team football for a couple of seasons, not even 40 league games to his name, he has of course not been playing in the top flight.

Roy said he'd watched videos of Munoz so he clearly is engaged with the transfer window and not just being left on the periphery. Therefore, you would imagine he's also been watching videos of Wharton too. You would hope that if he is staying on at the helm that Dougie & Co would put the question to Roy as to whether he would play him. It could also just be Palace trying to steal a march on their rivals as the lad has attracted a lot of interest. With other clubs focused on staying within the limits of FFP it might be the club see this as the best time to snap him up. If he is top drawer then the club could double or triple their money. If he's just average he'd probably still prove useful as a squad player and is young enough to get plenty of mileage out of him. That is a longer-term view when most of us think we need an instant impact, but sometimes those types of gambles pay dividends.

I was enjoying some lunch in a Public House yesterday and I heard some chap assert that in his opinion with Mr Hodgson leaving either sooner or at the end of the season, a successor has already been chosen and that this person is being consulted about potential transfers !

If our new manager declares he is swerving about like an ebullient snipe and is rhapsodically jocose about our prospects this post will be seen as a major clue.

Jon Dahl Tomassen is quoted that the kid has 'champions league quality' - this sounds like Olise, Eze territory - the bidding and the reactions suggest he is the real deal - some flatter to deceive but he's clearly rated by serious observers.

It seems he is an up and coming like-for-like cover for Doucore as a holding midfielder. I'd be much more excited if he was an attacking 'midfield general' - a position we have not had since Yohan Cabaye, before him Ben Watson. Since Glen Murray we have had a succession of non-performing strikers, Bamford, Sorloth, Mateta etc. Has anyone twigged why? However, a promising young midfielder available for £20 million - what's not to like? Lack of pace is not a great handicap for a skilful mid-fielder viz: Christian Eriksen

Surprising to hear them talking detail on the Palace in your neck of the woods Willo. I was enjoying lunchtime culinary delights with family, well north of my 'neck of the woods'. In actual fact there are quite a few supporters of our club who are resident not too far removed from my abode.
