No one can be surprised in the current situation. We’ve had this feeling of malaise with Roy for 4 years. Anyone who went through that period knew he would revert back to type soon enough. This is on the board as far as I’m concerned. They just thought they could limp over the line, this will likely still be the case even if Roy stays. By Roy’s own admission palace came knocking on his door when PV was given the boot not the other way round. Roy’s a gentleman and a proper football man and accepted the offer in palaces hour of need. Parish and co should not have put Roy in this position. Roy’s time was more than done last time round. To compound the situation they have given him next to zero support, everybody knows Roy won’t play a teenage kid from Brazil in his first season, just like he won’t play the young palace kids either. It’s not his way, everybody knows this which makes the signing even more odd. Yes he’s one for the future, but our need was short term and while Roy is with us. Yes Roy ever the gentleman has said he came into the role with his eyes wide open but they have failed him. I’m sad it’s ended/ending like this for Roy and was so unnecessary. We do need to move on from Roy, even though the noises out the club are the players are fully behind him still. I hated seeing that image of Roy looking at that banner yesterday albeit I very much agree that message was needed. The club needs a lift, a new personality leading our team can given us that. Parish’s managerial decisions bar Roy have been very questionable so we’ll have to trust he gets this one right. Roy has been forced back to his old style, due to circumstances beyond his control. Last season he had Decoure, Eze, Olise and Zaha all playing well, thats all gone tits up. Olise injured bar 5-6 games, Eze injured twice, Decoure out most of the season and Zaha couldnt make up his mind, then chose Turkey mid August. So, his attacking options are curtailed.

Forced back into his old style isn't working, however. I can entirely understand the lack of our best players. Nevertheless, I can look at Pulis, for example. He had a crap side and used it to his nest ability to scrape points. We have to do the same now. We simply have to work on set pieces. We have no choice than to try and make goal chances from our own, largely regardless of where they are on the pitch. We need to put men forward and lump it up - however much that offends Roy's sensibilities. Same goes for defending them. We're going to have to bring everyone back, more or less, and defend them as a team.

Well, nothing happens quickly at Palace, so he has that going for him. Sheffield United is a must-win. It has been thought that RH specializes in beating sides in the bottom half of the table, but that halo has slipped a bit this season. Should the manager lose the next game, that may well be it. In the unlikely event that there is someone already waiting in the wings (other than Paddy Mac.) then to give him a few days to prepare for the next match might make sense? It may be that if RH stays until the end of the season, Palace will escape relegation (just). On balance, I would think that the Board will take the view that there is a better likelihood of this happening than if it replaces him (just).

One with Roy I would think. I could be wrong, just a hunch, but I think there will be news maybe soon. And I doubt it will be about the New Main Stand.

To be completely fair, they also didn’t have new home shirts available last season until about Christmas and this year it took several weeks to get more than 1 box full of Mediums. I just don’t think it’s right to say the Board is competent in this area, they’re equally useless at all aspects!

Why? How would you persuade any player to come play under Roy, nevermind one under 25 and in the least attack minded. He plays the same setup week in, week out. This lies at Roy's door. Lack of investment in squad, no forward planning and taking the easy option with Roy Edited by Spiderman (21 Jan 2024 9.16pm)

I fell into the Hodgson out camp yesterday. I wrote on the Parish out thread recently about being realistic with our ambitions given our income vs other teams. I still stand by that. What is alarming for me is the continuing coaching issues. 1) Set Pieces. At Premier League level, if you're doing well or poorly it's simply a matter of coaching. We have international goalkeepers, international centre halves. Arsenal yesterday demonstrated what can happen when everyone has a job against a team where no-one has a job. Our net goals from set piece this season must be appalling. 2) Goals scored. Sod the injuries - Luton have now scored more than us this season. We have failed to score in 40% of our home games this season, only Everton and Burnley are worse. In Everton's defence, after their first 3 games they've only failed to score in the United defeat and a 0-0 draw with Villa. 3) General work rate. Hughes floats that crap cross into Raya's hands yesterday and the lack of movement is astounding. When Raya catches it, freeze it. Schlupp is staring at him dejected, with Trossard next to him. When Raya releases the ball, Schlupp is still staring at the Arsenal goal, Trossard is 35 yards up the pitch in a full blown sprint. He scores. Odegaard, who was also next to Schlupp, is next in line to score. As Jesus gets the ball, Schlupp finally turns around. Turns out he was waiting to console Andersen who ALSO hadn't moved because he was squaring off with Rice. That's sod all to do with the board. Everton, Luton, Wolves... they don't concede that goal. Their managers demand a work rate that means that doesn't happen. 4) Bringing on Tomkins to play alongside Ahamada against a fresh Martinelli? Give me a break. I have no idea what the point of that was but it turned a bad defeat into an embarrassment and may be the straw that breaks the camel's back. That decision got exactly what it deserved. Had we played another 5 minutes God knows how many he'd have scored. We've conceded 5 awful goals. Poor set piece work, poor transition and work rate, poor in game management. None of that has anything whatsoever to do with finances and player quality. That is all coaching. Even worse, it's meant to be Hodgson's strengths. If he isn't delivering the goals, AND isn't delivering defensive stability ... what's he offering?

I got my new home shirt before the end of last season before the Forest game and they sold out that day , granted there have been a few more shirts since , They said it was a " master stroke by Steve Parish "

Roy won’t be sacked. Not a hope. I tuned out to this season a long time ago. It is beyond depressing to keep putting ourselves through it. Lets just hope we start of next season in the top division with a fresh start.
