Iceland Roy has been found out again, his type of football is truly awful and offers absolute no hope to any youngster who is looking for a chance to impress, his own words confirmed this.

I cant understand why he didnt play Olise in the free role behind Edouard, Ayew on the right, where all 3 assists have come from, Schlupp on the left, its his only position, and to not bring Franca or Ebowei on just smacks of stubbornness.
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

Well, what a shower of sh!t that was last night. Roy turning on the fans is the worst thing he can do and probably shows his frustration with the situation. It's not unreasonable to not want your team to lose to three sides (Everton, Luton and Bournemouth) that we should have got a few points out of, rather than a big fat zero. The thing is that he knows the deal, this is a pride thing as he knows that he's not getting the best out of this squad anymore and probably thinks he's doing us a favour being here at all. Think he forgets that there was a train strike yesterday, just that many turning up was dedication, so really bad move to start making criticisms of the fans. We looked bereft of ideas last night, lost count of the number of times players had the ball and no one to pass to and we just have absolutely nothing upfront. Can't understand why Roy didn't give Franca a runout, couldn't have done any worse than what we were watching.
The trouble with computers, of course, is that they're very sophisticated idiots |

I watched the game as I always do but for the first time in ages found it too painful and just listened to the commentary. Let’s be honest. Bournemouth were much better than we expected. I know their form is good but they are still just Bournemouth having a little lucky run. Except they weren’t. They were strong, consistently first to the ball and bossed us. We were slow, of action and thought. Lots of misplaced passes and poor crosses. No penetration at all. We were lucky to get 0! I know injuries and a lack of quality on the bench make it tough but is there more to it than that? I doubt whether Roy has lost the dressing room. He is too experienced and respected for that. Everyone seemed tired and lethargic. Do we have some sickness in the squad? I was at the game WE and did not think that Bournemouth were very good at all - they certainly worked hard and wanted it more and that was more than enough to win the game.

Of the team that beat Leeds 5-1 in April - 9 players started last night, only Eze and Doucoure were missing. They are crucial players but clearly far more has gone wrong since then that two players missing. Roy had the team playing decent football, now it is woeful.

I see Roy and PV as two opposite ends of the spectrum. I could well be wrong across the board here, but PV I saw as 'too liberal' and lacking in instruction in how he wanted us to play and Roy as 'too rigid'. That good spell we had when Roy returned, which I praised him for at the time, I now see as the correct balance between the two as part of a transition. PV allowed the players freedom but to the extent it left us a bit all over the gaff. Roy came in and installed some discipline which really helped the team and massively improved performances. Unfortunately, the 'Royball' has now been fully installed with any remnants of PV having dissipated. We transitioned from being a bit directionless in our play under PV to being far too regimented under Roy. Both styles are ineffective with the current system being incredibly depressing too. Is a manager who can deliver both elements of structure and inspiration, install some belief in the players and have them motivated to play a pipe dream? I'd suggest it's not easy but not impossible to find either. In any instance, and I say this whilst emphasising I am one of those fans who attends every single game I can without any loss of enthusiasm, I am now aligning with others who have lost much interest let alone desire in seeing us play. I may well give L'pool a miss, which is highly uncharacteristic, and am struggling to even give that ticket away. Bad times, something has to change. I don't see it happening and not in 2023. I still believe, without too much hysteria, we are on course to be relegated this season.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Keep hearing "Sack Roy and who do we bring in"? I don't know, I'm not a scout, but there are hundreds of managers out there who would take the job. Maybe bring in one who believes in setting up to win games and is willing to try youngsters. You never know, once they get some playing time we might find out that they actually can play. Some of these 'youngsters' are already 20 years old, so if they ain't good enough, move them on, cos really they are old enough to be starting.

Someone with a big personality and the ability to prise open the board's wallet might just be what's needed, even if to just see us through to the summer. If Parish is thinking of getting rid then he needs to do it now though. A run of games with minimum expectations to give the new manager time to implement his ideas and also time to put across their ideas of what we should do in January (if they're just loans then surely the manager should have a say?) If Eze does indeed return quicker than expected and is fit then that could be enough to save Roy's neck as him and Olise together are a handful for anyone. As much as I am fed up with Roy's tactics if Eze & Olise had been fit all season we would probably be on 20+ points. That pairing could also be a draw for a new manager too though.
