He'll go to Man Utd. - the second most valuable club globally - as DOF and he will go there on merit, because people in the business of football understand his prominent talent.

So the majority of our transfers with Dougie have been really good? And he's a massively qualified Director of Football?

If he does join United it might clear up why we paid £20m for a reserve keeper from them!

I could never shake the thought that it was somehow linked to the Butland loan.

I lifted this off the bbc's gossip site via the Independent . . . Sir Jim Ratcliffe admires former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards and is keen on him being part of Manchester United's revamped football operations as the British billionaire's acquisition of 25% of the Red Devils edges closer. (Independent)

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

Why would the second biggest club in the world be wanting to tap him up? Aside from Fergie's recommends as another canny Glaswegian?

He's been at Selhurst under 4 different Chairman as player, manager, coach, DoF for nearly 30 years and through a scenario where club nearly ceased operating yet, people want to call him a traitor or incompetent because he left for another management role?! Shake my head in disbelief.

Just doesn't happen in the pragmatic real business world, only in the overly sentimental world of football.

Personally - I don't think he's a traitor or anything like that. I wasn't happy when he left originally but also recognise that that's football. I don't think he's been that good with our transfers. At best, below average would be my own rating of our transfers over the years.
However, I couldn't comment on his overall job competency as I don't see everything he does.
I would also believe, just a hunch, that he won't be going to Utd as Director of Football - although he seems alright at trying to unearth youngsters from Scotland and Ireland. A scout perhaps or assistant Chief Scout, or Chief Scout - something like that? Seems feasible.

I doubt he will go but he is turning up interesting players on a modest budget and also helping a good playing culture at CPFC...something Man U are desperate to change.
