Agreed, different players but Eze is more of a complete player. Wilf is a club legend but Eze epitomises a champions league player. If he keeps developing under Roy this season it will certainly be his last here. Let’s enjoy him while it lasts. Not just a great player but a great personality too Why are so many folk on here certain he will be gone next season? Sure, he's going to attract a lot of attention, but I remain optimistic that we can persuade him to continue as a Palace player (along with his chum Olise) for at least the 24/25 season. Then we can be satisfied we've developed both of them sufficiently to give us a huge pay day after having watched their combined inspirational skills for a while longer.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

I'd suggest the greatest threat to either leaving will be any lack of investment/progression of the team. We need to be seen as a progressive club to retain these players or their ambition will outgrow us. Here's hoping we see this. Very exciting if so.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

However, Eze will have his 26th birthday during the next summer transfer window. He may then feel it would be time for him to move up to one of the big clubs. As Lanzo has being saying for a while and others are joining in, Eze is a generational talent. The top clubs in the PL and Europe will, I fear, be lining up for him next summer if he continues to progress under Ray's and Roy's tutelage. The only thing that might stop him going is his personal Christian faith. He may feel it is right before God to stay but I wouldn't hold my breath on that one being the case.

Apologies if I sound a little too sentimental Watched the game on Saturday…he was happy, chatty, enjoying his football, an icon with the fans. More than happy to sign my sons shirts after the game and just an all round nice guy! Clearly Roy and the team have created a really special atmosphere at Palace! You can sense a great team bond! I just feel the signing of a contract (with a release clause), would be beneficial to everyone.

But this does...watching him play reminds me of how I felt when I started going to Selhurst. That he's a nice bloke adds another level.

I might even start praying if I thought it would help. He's really blossomed even more so since Zaha got injured and then left. Let's enjoy it while we can he will move on and I don't begrudge any player who does. Someone mentioned the other day Eze, Olise, Franca and Eddie (new and improved version) it does make the mouth water. Edited by Badger11 (05 Sep 2023 2.06pm)

Second highlighted: now imagine that with Doucoure and Lerma behind them, Andersen and Guehi behind that and Johnstone/Henderson in goal. Could be fun times ahead.

Right, sorry i have no links, but, apparently EZE has signed a new contract. I don't do twitter, tik-tok or things like that, but a few sources ie on FB are saying so. Whether this is true i have no idea, im hoping it is tho. Ok, what i read/heard was wrong, here's the link from Ornstein . . . It makes sense for Eze to sign a new deal for him and us. I imagine he'll be getting near 100k pw which would be a huge pay bump and the club won't sell him until next summer at the earliest anyway. It's also great to see Franca finally out on the training pitch today. He looks like another player who plays with a smile on his face. It's a little thing but it does make a big difference. I also noticed Lerma in the photos which hopefully means his injury isn't too serious.

Thanks for updates on Franca and Lerma too TL, a slight air of concern as there always is at Palace but hopefully in the not too distant future we'll see the likes of Hodgson, Lerma, Olise, Guehi and Franca all fit and ready. If we can stay reasonably mid-table 'til then might be a decent cup run and finish to the season in store! COYP.
