No I wasn't suggesting that a retired McArthur is better than Lerma.
But a prime McArthur, even the one who was excellent in Vieira's first season, in my opinion is superior to Lerma.
The broader point I was making related to replacing players with inferior players.
In my view the squad may well be weaker this season than last season.Gray and Adams for example, would not be signings to meet the club's aspiration to get into the top 10.
I don't see it is a controversial view, or one that is critical of the club.

How do you replace Zaha, Olise and possibly one of the centre backs with our resources?

At the moment we're in a position that Ayew and Schlupp( who many fans wanted to see left out) are key players for us.
Not my view as they are reliable players who have served the club well.
However, we shouldn't be in a position where Ayew is arguably our best option for any of the front 3 roles such is the paucity of alternatives.

Well we bought Olise, Guehi & Andersen in the first place, not that long ago either and the other was a product of our Youth set up.

As for Guaita refusing to play…appalling behaviour.

Nobody has the god given right to be the number one choice in any position and his attitude regarding this just stinks.

We are now better off rid of him but not on his terms, plus we need to secure a decent replacement.

Get him gone!

Vicente is 36, so people will not be falling about to hire him.

I would give him more love, he likes donuts so send him big ones every day.

Plus photos of his great saves and how Palace cannot do without him.

Would he like a mural? (didn't work last time).

Indeed , we did buy these players and Zaha was a product of the youth set up.
However, the point I was making was to replace them this window (if necessary) would be beyond our resources costing way in excess of £100 million.
We can buy or develop players as replacements for sure , but I doubt very much they would be like for like replacements who could make a similar immediate impact.
It partly explains why we were so desperate to hold on to Zaha and why Roy has said we’ll battle to keep Olise while acknowledging that (sadly) it’s ultimately Olise’s choice.
I may be wrong - Franca might make us forget about Zaha from day 1, we may find another GuehiAnderson (if one of them leave).
Time will tell.

In my view he was an average goal keeper at best .
Yes he made some great saves ( that was his job ) but at the same time did a lot of blunders letting simple shots be scored .
He couldn't cover his near post or command the penalty box .
Funny how people remember the saves and nothing else .
If he no longer wants to play for us , then goodbye .

Just seen this thread after hearing Simon Jordan say on the radio Guaita was on strike. Get rid we wont get much for him but so what. Been a good keeper and servant to the club but had his nose put out of joint with Johnstone being number 1.

Who would we bring in as back up?

Move him on. I thought Getafe were interested in getting him back.

I see Johnstone has been given the No1 shirt(Guaita was always 31)

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

We're all very quick to suggest kicking him out, but has anyone asked if he'd like to play up front? Maybe he's not annoyed about Johnstone usurping him, but that Mateta starts ahead of him?

James, bring your boots to Selhurst Park on a matchday and you'll be in with a shout at leading the line ahead of our current lumbering pair, mate.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)
