Rubbish I see no freedom of speech infringements here. It's a corporation deciding to suspend an employee who has made significantly derogatory comments to an individual in the workplace. And worse, in public Would happen in any business, and no-one would complain. Once again the 'I should be able to say what I like without consequence' angle is trotted out. This has never been the case, and never will He was unprofessional, but I've heard a lot worse being said about him. Where is the faux outrage about that?

The only reason any action is being taken against Fox is precisely because of the speech infringements imposed on broadcasters by 'progressives' like Ofcom.....a body that can rely on reforms on speech inflicted on this country since Blair. As for your claim that people have never been able to say what they liked....To quote David Starkey (another who has fallen foul of modern puritanism) 'you set the bar as low as possible'.....otherwise freedom of speech becomes a myth. Libel and threats to violence were the tradition and the move beyond that is disastrous for freedom. Edited by Stirlingsays (27 Sep 2023 1.55pm)

Fox asked "Who'd want to shag that" - I would.

It's laughable in many ways. The idea that being rude about someone on TV is worthy of anything other than perhaps a quiet word in the ear really does demonstrate how immature we have become as a nation. I wonder why that has happened? He asked knowingly. Totally agree. It's a metaphor for just how ridiculous this country has become.

Edited by Stirlingsays (27 Sep 2023 1.55pm) I said 'Once again the 'I should be able to say what I like without consequence' angle is trotted out. This has never been the case, and never will' Not 'people have never been able to say what they liked'. Big difference, and it's not true in any case, as Fox has demonstrated. Free speech is still very much alive and well. I find it bizarre that you expect someone to say something intensely derogatory and or worse in a workplace to go unpunished, or even that it should be celebrated. That might have happened in the 19th century. Certainly way before your time anyway. There has always been consequence to free speech. Always.

Fox was clearly way out of order and should apologise.

I've already answered this, you're just repeating yourself....which you are at liberty to do. Fox was rude nothing more.....You think that deserves punishment...probably because that's what the establishment of this time believe in. However, I think punishment for just being rude is ridiculous.

Which is incorrect both for then and now. Free speech is alive and well. Consequences have always been in place. This is nothing new. Your nuance is how many and how deep the consequences are – I'd argue that in some cases the line is overstretched, in others a bit more holding people to account creates a more pleasant social environment, especially at work. I'm certain that you wouldn't be so 'concerned' if this had happened on the BBC.
