There's a significant difference between insulting a player by calling him a w@nker and disparaging all Asians by making fun of one person's Asian looks. While both are idiotic, the former targets an individual, while the latter demeans an entire group of people. Thoughtful folks don't want Asian children (and others) to see such idiocy and think that they're open to public ridicule just because of the way they look.

I don't know whether the fan in question discriminates against Asians in his home, his workplace, or elsewhere, but that's not the point. Even if you believe that making the gesture doesn't rise to the level of "racist behavior," it's hard to argue that stuff like this doesn't help nurture and perpetuate racist thinking and behavior in the long run.

In my Ted Lasso-like world of faith in human nature, I'd like to see Sonny sit down with the fan in a pub this summer and help him realize there's perhaps there's a better way to go through life. Steve Parish could foot the bill.

It's all about division and unrest... divide them and watch them crumble...

Yeah, it's a stupid thing to do.. but that's all.. stupid. losing everything over it, ridiculous - teaching kids that words do hurt, when it's sticks and stones that hurt..

The irony is, people calling him a w***er, doing the hand sign, swearing etc... all ignored.... lol

The problem is this is the establishment now and clearly what the elites want.

Other than bowing to their donors I'll never quite understand why the Tories were so meek to all of this and turned against their own principles so quickly. They have been appointing non Conservatives to major roles for decades and fund NGOs and organisations that oppose their actual policies.....I'll never forgive Amber Rudd for appointing Dick of the Met.

Cameron set the filter system to stop any actual Conservatives (unless they were ethnic) from MP selection......Cameron and May certainly have a lot to answer for on all this.

Legit question from someone who's never attended a PL game. Racist gestures aside, is this level of taunting typical?

As Son walks past the Palace fans, scores of them are jeering at him – really laying into him, pointing and yelling in a personal way. It looks as if he's only 10-20 feet from many of them, though it could be misleading because of the long camera lens.

Yes. Happens at most game most weeks.

Good post. Having been at the game the atmosphere in the away end was pretty toxic towards the end. However that is no excuse. This guy is an idiot and will no doubt suffer significantly for his actions.

That was my point. What is acceptable and what isn’t? A 1000 plus people calling a guy a w@nker repeatedly for c 60 seconds or one guys spur of the moment racist gesture without engaging his brain in what was an extremely toxic atmosphere at the time. I am not saying either are right but I guess the club won’t want to ban the majority of their away support but can easily throw the book at this one guy.

Exactly how I see it, left and traditional right are talking past each other and don't share the same language. The whole of football is set up to view this kind of thing as a kind of crime and common sense won't and doesn't factor into anything.

The anti racism industry must have its racists to burn to justify all the money being pumped into it.

Interesting regional variation. At my primary school it was "dirty knees".

Notice it was a little old lady HE gave it large too. Had it been a man HE would not have said a word.

Sacked, according to the Mail, not surprising really. I bet it's co-workers are glad to see the back of it.

Interesting to see the guy is above age 45 - and should know better

At the wolves game I had same next to me old timer screaming/ shouting for nigh on 20 minutes at home crowd “ northern fing b……..”.

Question would either of them do it face to face toe to toe with that person(s) ?

Very doubtful but this should be the next course of action - I think the offender would decline through pure embarrassment

Btw the act is not warranted & Son is a fantastic player
Also Son knows he is rising above it walking past nonchalantly looking at crowd.
Then at scoreboard - who goes home happier.

Behavior is not warranted or acceptable especially from an OAP

I wasn't at the game is it true that the Spurs fans were liberally using the Y word?

If true a bit odd the media goes mad over one Palace idiot whilst saying nothing about that.

Yes they were several times, most of the ground joined in. Also in front of Police Officers at the Underground Station.
