I also saw a stat that we are third in the PL for cost per point this season (only behind Brentford and Brighton). Of course I'm not enjoying the games at the moment and if someone told me Tuchel or Pochettino want the job then fine, but when you look at how hard Leeds and Saints found it to get a manager at this stage of the season I think you have to be realistic. Personally I see no signs that the players have turned on Vieira and I have no desire to see another elderly stop gap. I also think a lot of it has to do with confidence. If we could get an unexpected win from one of the next three games that would be huge (if unlikely). Give it 3 more games and there won't be anyone below us.

Purely on statistics, he's got the worse record of any manager in the past 25+ years (except de Boer & Warnock's second stint). Under him we've won 22%, Roy won 33% & Pardew 38% Not exactly confidence inspiring
Trivial fact - Palace used to win 5-1 at least once a season, maybe next season? |

I actually wouldn't be surprised if we managed to get two draws from our next three games and I also suspect the majority of our fans feel this way also, if instead we were all fearing an absolute avalanche of goals then yes I'd tend to be agreeing with most of you on here in regard to our manager

I agree. Vieira binned Derry as he was threatened by him. This squad need some harsh words and very quickly to ensure we don’t go down. PV’s ridiculous set up of playing high wing backs to cross the ball to nobody was the final straw. The bloke is absolutely clueless. There are managers in league 2 with better grip of the hand the him

Looks like the whole organization is in free fall from top to bottom - and if we go down .... think QPR and the like, until there is a complete change of leadership at the executive management and board level. If we go down, and we might, I don't see an organization capable of changing the plot. Us and Leicester have consistently failed to invest in their squads to maintain a competitive starting eleven and the outcome is entirely predictable. Most disconcerting is our ability to attract top coaching/ recruitment / football director talent, always on the cheap, or in panic mode, and therefore garbage in, garbage out. PV has run out of ideas and while he is not the whole problem, his position is the only one that can be quickly changed to prevent the incoming freefall. Problem is, at this time of the season it is a panic response to a crisis and its not like there is a top mclass manager waiting in the wings who could come on board with guarantees of financial support to rebuild in the summer. Anyone have big Sam's number?

I suspect a sizeable number of our supporters want the club to dispense with the services of Vieira but I also suspect that this is not on the radar of the hierarchy at this juncture.

There are managers in league 2 with better grip of the hand the him It certainly sounds like a theory, I agree regarding Gallagher however do not disagree too strenuously on other points but must add I have one myself: The centre of my thinking atm is that PV inherited an old 'Roy' team. One that was well drilled, resistant and resilient just lacking in attacking threat or any flair. I thought, with additions, PV built upon this by loosening us up a bit and we started to look like a team both with the inherited sturdiness but a bit more going forward. I did note this early doors as well must say. I gave PV a fair amount of credit then as there was quite an overhaul in playing staff too. For me, now, we have two fantastic CBs however do not have that sturdiness as a unit therefore weaker at the back, do not have a solid enough foundation for the attacking players and look absent of tactical instruction. Hence the lack of attacking threat, goals and subsequently any win for a very long time. I saw an interesting piece suggesting PV's Nice downfall was due to an absence of 'identity' for his football and subsequently the team. Sounds very familiar. Many used to bemoan Roy's 'style' however I'd struggle to even articulate our identity or approach under PV. There's no leadership on or off the pitch and we do not even look to ever have a game plan, style or even notion as to how to threaten the opposition's goal. PV has shown nothing to me that suggests he has any pragmatism, answers or even tricks up his sleeve to turn around our fortunes. I understand those saying he will not get sacked however I fear when he does leave, which he will soon, it may well be the overwhelming and obvious to state it should have been sooner. If things are not going to change then I can soon see us threatening records for longest PL run without a win and ultimately up excrement's creek without a paddle. A fitting idiom given we will be in the relegation battle and bereft of any other options beyond a new manager performing miracles. Shoot that down if you choose to however I do not see much evidence to the contrary. We're on a one-way road here and it's going steeply downhill without even a glimmer of hope from my perspective. We were very lucky vs BHA and I honestly thought we looked slightly better against L'pool, despite them being very very poor, however even that inspiration has quickly been stomped out. It's almost nostalgic for me as I haven't been this worried for Palace for a while. Edited by Nicholas91 (05 Mar 2023 12.00am)
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |
