They did. 4-5 in fact. I was, as a man of your calibre no doubt appreciated, referring to the underlying competition (The Full Members'Cup) and not to one or other of its sponsorship iterations (Simod, then Zenith Data Systems). Just as I would refer to "The League Cup", ignoring all its various sponsorship names, or "The London Marathon" etc etc TBF to Chelsea, at least they weren't too aloof to enter it, and indeed they won it twice, as did Nottingham Forest. Edited by YT (11 Jun 2023 4.54pm) I went up to a Simod cup Semi final against Forest, I’ve got a vague memory Wrighty equalised late, but they beat us in extra time? I stand corrected if my old brain has got that wrong Edited by monkey (11 Jun 2023 5.53pm)

I’ve no issue either, for all their money, it’s still 11 v 11 on the pitch and as fans that’s all we should be bothered about. We’ve bloodied the nose of all the big spenders in our time and when we do it makes it all the more sweet. Good luck to them, I’m glad they won and did the treble Now admittedly if it was Liverpool, Man. Utd, or Chelsea whom I hate(don’t we all) I would definitely have wanted Inter Milan to win, but City and their fans are okay, I’m pleased they did the business I think those comments sums up football supporters today. My first recollection of a European cup final was 1968 when Manchester Utd beat Benfica 4-1. Back then whoever you supported you still wanted the English team to win. And that was because the 11 players / sub(s) were all British and mainly English players. It was our country club verses a European club side mainly filled with players from that country. Now we have clubs from the premiership full of play from all over the world and no British identity to support. Makes me sad that we would be pleased for our prem teams to lose now and support another team playing outside our country to win :-(

Their substitute was also English. So on that occasion they weren't quite all British, but it was close. They were indeed mainly English (8/12). Benfica's XI and their substitute were all Portuguese.
Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes) |

Abu Dhabi City. 2 billion spent and 115 FFP charges. When you have more money and better lawyers than the PL and UEFA you cannot lose.
