PV second season in EPL was always going to be the more difficult due to the fact that we are in theory were not dissimilar to a newly promoted team that had a reasonable first season and then tactically were found out by the more experienced EPL head coaches that often causes second season teams to struggle with ""second season syndrome" this often results in relegation. PV second season problems were further exacerbated by losing CG (by far our best player in PV first season with the club) and the inability of the board to replace him and then to add insult to injury they allowed Kouyata who was robust and good at his job to move away for free because Parish did not want to offer an extra 12 months on his contract. The current squad is very short of proven EPL quality and experience with PV often having to use players that really should not be in a EPL first team squad at all based on their ability and age. The problems we face are primarily down to lack of investment in players by the current board over the last five years Our average investment over that period has been £11.5mil/per season. The only other team who has spent less in that period and are still surviving in the league is Soton and look at where they are. Three of our four main board members are more interested in other things than this football club and two of three want out meaning they are reluctant to invest further in the club. Parish doesn't have the individual wealth to make much difference, this is now making him delusional by believing he can survive on a couple of loan signings this window. Our next 9 league games taking us up until then end of March looks very difficult on paper and points will be hard to find based on the player form ratings from last Wednesday's game, which frankly are the worst I have ever seen for this football club. Some of course believe that our Academy is going to save us in the future, sadly nothing could be further from the truth, statistics say that only 0.5% of entrants will make it to elite level.I agree the manager has his faults and is inexperienced but the true problems that this club faces is lack of investment in players at this level and sadly this season it may well prove very difficult for us to survive. I do hope I'm wrong! I’m out of breath after reading that paragraph!

But you can point out that they are not investing in line with what it takes to stay in this league. We are not finding/buying the replacements, we are not producing the future talent, we are not selling on players either. 10 years in the prem. We unearthed one gem, AWB. We went up in 2013 ahead of schedule - that's absolutely fine, you gotta be in it, to win it. Year one, in the prem should've been about improving the squad so that if we went down, we were in a strong position and the cash from the prem - lovely, thank you. What did we do, sign a million players, insult one by not giving him a spot and releasing him. Pardew came in, we splashed the cash on Cabaye - we needed to hold that line but instead we got in danger and bought our way out with Sam Allardyce. We didn't hold that line and recoup. We just waded in the water. Fans wanting more, club quiet, RH came in, after the dutch disaster class and Roy held the line. The club were never transparent in my eyes, to the point where we all knew what was going. He should have just said - we are broke, we are looking at each season as we are newly promoted and need to survive. We didn't offload expensive players that clashed with that mindset. I've always said, since promotion - we need to look at it as we need to stay up, playing our way, our philosophy and build on that. If we go down, we want to be the strongest team in the champ, with a plan. If we stay up, as intended, it wasn't because we broke the bank. If teams cannot find a winning formula for this league, then why do we want to be in this state? Hindsight is wonderful, first thing we should have done is sorted out our youth set up and scouting network. I'd be happy being a champ club, producing talent that other clubs want... having fun in the cup each year. There are 4 professional leagues, being in the top one isn't life or death to me.

10 years in the Premier League. Average income per season? Perhaps £130M or more. So £1.3 billion over 10 years. Add in extra money input by investors. Where’s it all gone - mostly on wages for underperforming players? Apart from a smart new academy and some relatively minor ground upgrades and improvements, what’s there to show for it? I know it was a lot cheaper and easier back then, but when first getting promoted to the top division in 1969 we at least had a new stand (the Arthur Waite) when relegation came 4 years later.

Yup, it's not worth it.. we aren't making the most of this.. I said before, I would rather go up every 3/4 years, take the money and run...

Unless Mr Parish and the American 'investors' get their fingers out this month, we could well be back in the Championship next season. Remember the investment during the close season of 2021 came from John Textor (who has now put funds into Lyon). Where would we be without that investment ? It is also a similar situation with contracts next summer.

I posted on the lessons learnt thread about 10 seasons and £1bn + in prize money but when I look at Fulham, Brighton and Brentford 7/8/9th in the league and the way they are run and their grounds compared to ours....its fooking embarrassing the way this club has been run for the last decade. We'll pay the price with relegation...so Parish needs to forget about the new stand as we won't need it the championship and invest more in young hungry players we can sell on. Perhaps rebuilding the main stand in a way that it can be extended should it need to be (ala Liverpool) for half the price of the proposed "Tribute to Parish Stand" would cost and investing the rest of the money in players to keep us in the league and perhaps be a bit more competitive might be the way to go?
