Mate, I started life in Peckham, grew up in Forest Hill but spent many a night hanging around Downham/Grove Park/Catford/Beckenham, that general vicinity. 'Twas rough then, was before and I am led to believe now. A lot of my mates went to Bonus Pastor there too. Since then I have lived in the following areas: New Cross, Bermondsey, Brockley, Hither Green, Wandsworth (or Putney in keeping with this thread), Burnt Oak (Brent), Islington and finally Eltham before moving to our town. Suffice to say you'd be better off just stating 'Kent' than our moniker when asked where you are from but is has not a patch on any of the aforementioned in terms of any parameter - life expectancy, risk of violence, risk of burglary, gangs, knives, guns etc etc! To be quite honest anywhere I would have ended up that you had to sincerely google to find reports of a 'murder' was very much 'posh' in my books Edited by Nicholas91 (29 Nov 2022 1.37pm) Edited by Nicholas91 (29 Nov 2022 1.38pm) Bonus Paster!! As well as Sedge Hill were schools we used to have rucks with, well when I say ‘we’ I mean the hard lads who wanted to fight, I just went along and watched from a distance and was off like a bullet if it got a bit too hairy I used to knock around Beckenham, Catford Lewisham, Hither Green and Lee Green as well, back then though I never used to give it a thought what the area was like though, all I knew is I got to a certain age and it felt like there was feck all in Bromley, bit different now I should imagine

It's all relative, monkey. Growing up in Erith, I dreamt of living somewhere up-market like Bromley! My mum grew up in Brixton and Lambeth so I think she did feel quite privileged to live in Bromley back in the 70’s even though once I hit my teens it felt like the dullest place on the planet

As slur upon their parentage and poor diets of course. Sedge Hill knew very well but had little interaction with them. On Bromley, not so sure tbh Went to meet the old dear in the Glades not so long ago to get her phone 'upgraded', that met every hilarious stereotype you could imagine, but remarkably it has had some new additions to it, included the Wagamama I was very impressed by! Beckenham a dangerous place as it seems so affluent, leafy and so on, I always considered it posh, but provides a melting pot from Bromley, Elmers End etc and Penge/Lewisham lot to congregate. Areas not always so fond of one another. There's been a fair few murders around there involving youths in years past.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

you know your posh when ....you are descended from people who got married with an enormous age gap. King Wladyslaw Jagiello of Poland : 53 years the senior to his last wife. They had two sons
