Watched the US-Wales game. The officiating was terrible. Too many fouls called, and the penalty foul was a disgrace. It was the Welsh guy who fouled the US player. You Brits better watch out Friday. Throwing your press clippings out onto the field scares no one. Lok what happened Argentina and Germany.

Having told myself I wasn't going to watch any of it I have to confess to having enjoyed it so far. I don't think I'll ever win a cap for virtue signalling.

What would the reaction be if international teams turned up at Wembley wearing armbands espousing the more repressive aspects of their own cultures?

Your prerogative of course Willo, but I've found that watching only the football when the actual football's on, and seeing some already great moments like Japan's 2nd goal yesterday against the Germans, so far to me this World Cup has been all about the football, during the football.

The football has been pretty good. Atmosphere poor. Yet, Qatar's suppression of any views has made relatively pleasant viewing of just the matches. Avoid Lineker at all costs. However, how exactly does Scott make Lineker look like a wise old sage? She seems to know nothing at all about football - which doesn't really help many people's perception of the women's game. Plus, she actually backs up all the stereotypes people might have about female footballers. Own goal - almost a hat trick of them - but never in the back of the net - apparently.

Yep, I'm with you on this about the football mezzer. Before it started I felt no excitement or eager anticipation about the tournament, but having watched a few games already I confess I actually enjoyed them. Canada last night, for example, played some good football although their finishing was rubbish. Fun to watch though. Willo's right about all the ridiculous messaging and posturing that's going on of course, but if you ignore all the peripheral bilge and stick to the games, it's all quite entertaining. Look forward to seeing if Ronaldo makes an ass of himself later.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

14 games so far, 4 of them have finished 0-0. Not great as far as entertainment is concerned. Would be nice to see a couple of late, late winning goals to ramp up the excitement a tad.

Edited by Willo (24 Nov 2022 10.48am) For someone who loves to garner attention it seems somewhat ironic that you are so against virtue signalling. I mean, you literally felt the need to publicly highlight that you are unhappy with people publicly saying they are unhappy with something. You need to toughen up old boy. Stuff some copies of the Daily Mail down your trousers for protection. As it is I haven't really noticed much in terms of gestures, but I have enjoyed the football by and large with even the 0-0 games being generally entertaining. I'm looking forward to seeing Brazil tonight as they have a real box of fireworks in their attack.
