Sports can allow us to focus on something that can relieve us (at least temporarily) from our grieving. You can also use the game to remember a death or travesty. I thought the teams playing in Europe, when her death was announced, did an excellent job of this. Instead now people are only focusing on one thing, and lost an outlet to the grief. Plus, while most of us respected and revered the Queen, I think the majority of us are past our mourning period. Last weekend they should have had a moment of silence prior to the games, and worn black armbands. I understand certain supporters may not have liked it, but they're frankly idiots. To cancel games this weekend is a travesty.

The Brentford and Tottenham home games in London are both going ahead this weekend. Brentford and Tottenham are on different days and are low risk fixtures. Chelsea Liverpool would be a medium risk fixture and, being the later game on the Sunday, starts to cause issues for those that police it being back for work in the early hours of Monday for the funeral. I don't I've ever heard of a game being unpostponed and I doubt any of us on here can think of every barrier to that happening so whilst annoying, it's not surprising our game is still off. No idea on the situation surrounding United v Leeds, albeit it would be a high risk and therefore resource heavy fixtures. If you think about it, it really isn't much of a nonsense. The games last weekend definitely should have been played.

The original reason for cancelling the game was the train strike. You think people are accepting 'old junk' and your theory is that the game is off because Brighton don't fancy playing? As said, no-one on here knows what is required to put a game back on, or how many of Sussex police are being pulled into London. No-one has said Tottenham's game doesn't require policing, but no-one can reasonably think the requirements of Tottenham v Leicester on Saturday is anything on the scale of Brentford v Arsenal AND Chelsea v Liverpool on Sunday.

You acknowledged yourself that the games should have been played last weekend so presumably question some of the ‘junk’ from the authorities. You buy the excuse for this weekend, I don’t. Originally posted by ambrose7

Hi all
Maybe you should petition TESCO to allow staff that want to observe the funeral a day off, and to allow those who would prefer (or need) to work to do so? Personally, I would be perfectly happy for TESCO to be open on the day and to shop there. The key is respecting and accommodating each other's different views, not forcing something to close because you deem it correct (for which see: Football, postponements).

It's a tricky one but I think they should close. When I worked in a supermarket my shift always included a Monday. This meant I was forced to work bank holidays whilst others never did. I was never happy with that as it was simply unfair I would work often work Thurs - Monday over Easter whilst colleagues had the whole time off, and I was not allowed to book holidays at this time. Christmas was just as bad. I got the wrong end of the sh*t stick. I suspect there are lots of stories like this so the fairest thing for the staff is simply to close the store.

Tesco have announced that the majority of their large stores will now be shut on Monday. A major rethink most probably due to a large amount of negative publicity and that most of the other supermarkets had already stated their intention to close.
