My wife lived in Copers Cope Road before we were married in the church that is occasionally seen in Palace videos taken at the Academy. Her mother later moved to Shortlands.

We enjoyed many pleasant times in and around Beckenham at various eating and drinking establishments when we were 'courting'. Mind you, that was over 53 years ago.

During a visit to Beckenham Place Park last year the area still had a convivial air about it, but this stabbing incident on the train was shocking to see on the news last night and it demonstrates how all corners of society in this country are impacted by mindless behaviour.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Three Tuns with a jazz band if I recall correctly, followed by a chinese that was next door. Great night out with not a hint of any trouble.

hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing.

It's because it is a middle class area, this stuff goes on all the time in inner city London and unless there is a juicy video doesn't make the news.

I have imbibed in this establishment which I believe was the 'Bricklayers Arms'.
Enjoyed culinary delights in 'Dizzy's Diner' on the opposite side of the road.
More recently I have visited the 'The Chancery'.

I'm sure you're right Badger - just glad I now live in deepest Sussex.

Some of the larger coastal towns in Sussex have their fair share of criminality but one does not hear about rampant stabbings that seem prevalent in London.
I am resident in a West Sussex village on the coast and my visits to the large coastal towns are exceedingly infrequent.

There was a folk club at the Three Tuns, the Beckenham Arts Lab, where David Bowie played a few gigs.

I had heard, way back in the 80s, that 'The Beckenham' Public House had to close temporarily following a Police drugs raid.
I understand that the premises is now the 'Kelsey House' bar.

My word, those were the days of the chat-up lines, in this modern era you meet on Dating Sites.

I recall the 'Single Separates Clubs' where unattached men and women ventured hopefully to meet those with whom they wanted to strike up a friendship. To set the record straight,I was not a member of any such club.
