Gary Srebbing was better at football than me. I was pretty s***. That's the best I can say about him.

Ricky Heppolette whom we signed from Orient in the Mid-70s.
He never played many games for us and I don't recall him scoring.
He must be in his 70s now.

Someone mentioned earlier, he did score a goal for us, but the game was abandoned, so technically he didn’t

I’m going to give Steve Lovell a shout. Simply because of a random away game I’ve mentioned on here many times. In November 1981 we hadn’t won away for 18 months as we travelled to Wrexham away. It was two crap teams near the bottom of the 2nd division, we were in serious decline, good players leaving, it was foggy, freezing cold, a poxy journey and we’d had coins, bottles etc thrown at us in the police escort to the ground, there was only about 50 of us in the away end, caged in like animals, so when Lovell popped up with a late winner, we went mental.

I think that qualifies him as a lesser mentioned hero

Mickey Droy - hard as nails
Eric Young - Not so hard, but nice headband
Nicola Ventola - just for the moment of utopia until southampton scored.
Richard Shaw - mr dependable
Nico Vaesen - a loan, yes, but a very useful loan indeed

A real perfectionist.I had heard that in Belgium he used to keep a record of opponents penalty taking techniques.
A goalkeeper who often left his line and dealt well with crosses.
Trevor Francis signed him for Birmingham.

Not sure anyone’s mentioned Super Kevin Phillips. Not with us for long and it’s fair to say his best years were behind him, but it’s also fair to say, he still knew where the goal was in his short spell with us. Add to that, one of the coolest penalty kicks under pressure you’ll ever see, which was one of the most important goals in our history.

Now manager of South Shields who play in the Premier Division of the Northern Premier League.
He used to work in a Dixons warehouse when he was playing for Baldock Town and he also used to stack shelves in a local bakery.

It was his bread and butter

I believe that when he was young he was a striker, he converted into a full-back, before returning to become a striker.
I don't think he was that fleet of foot but he played on the shoulder of defenders and like to advance behind them.

He may not have been fleet of foot, but he certainly didn’t loaf around either
