Newcastle have just beaten Villa. Now 17th and 5 points behind us.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Well they’ve just spent thick end of £100m in January I don’t know why it’s a great surprise that they are gaining ground on us. We’re nine points clear of the bottom three.

And a game in hand but their goal difference is -19 to our -3.
They have won 3 games in succession.

Our games against the bottom half sides are obviously critical.

However, I really cant see Watford or Norwich surviving, whilst it's looking more and more bleak for Burnley even with their games in hand.

So saving grace is that there are definately 3 worse teams than us.

Burnley have only lost 1 of their last 4 games, today's encounter against Liverpool, and it was a narrow 0-1 defeat. They drew at Arsenal and home to Watford and Man Utd.They have only conceded 2 goals in those 4 games so appear defensively resilient.

They have games in hand but have only won 1 of their 21 PL games, so their position does look perilous.

Its a very concerning time, I do not expect anything from the Chelsea game, Watford and Burnley will be difficult and are more or less must win games, then its Wolves away, City at home, Newcastle
away so the situation could be very perilous if the teams below us show improved form and we continue to find scoring difficult!

It might only require 33/34 pts to survive and we are not too far off that total !

Every season we have gone through an iffy patch that us looking below us with some concern, before putting together a run that takes us away from the danger zone. To Hodgson's credit, he managed to target the games against the lower teams and pick up vital points.
Vieira needs to do better than the two poor performances we have recently seen, particularly with the squad he has at his disposal.
I remain optimistic, we have the potential, it needs to be realised, starting now.

You could well be right Willo, however I will only feel safe when I know our ponts total cannot be made up by at least three teams below us!

Norwich, Watford Burnley are doomed.

Doomed I tell you, doomed doomed doomed!!!!!

The nearest to us Norwich are 9 points adrift.

It's all very well saying they can catch up, but it's a very different matter on the pitch.

At best say a point a game that's 9 matches just to catch up, there are then only 5 more matches to play in the entire season.

And we, of course, would have had to lose 9 on the trot.
