You could say a Roy team may not have conceded the goals against Liverpool, but one thing is for sure and that is he would not have done much to fix it if his team had been down 2-0 at half-time and would generally look to consolidate and wait until at least the 70th minute before doing anything. Vieira perhaps could have reacted quicker on Sunday, but in fairness Liverpool were on fire with one-touch football and a pass success rate of something like 92% at half-time.

I'm not saying Vieira should be beyond reproach but I find it genuinely baffling that some people have started to question his position. He's a young manager learning his trade who has had to overhaul a squad and introduce a new style of play on a relatively small budget in PL terms. Look at the teams above us, only Southampton have spent less in recent years. This is the main reason I generally supported Roy even when I got sick of his brand of football. Eventually money does matter in the PL. It's the same reason Roy will find it hard to keep Watford up and why Norwich will probably go down. It may even be one step too far for Burnley this time around.

Good luck to Roy, but I've enjoyed the football at Palace under Vieira more than I have done since Pardew's crazy first six months.

Hear Hear! I am a little peeved that we now are losing the record of the oldest manager. :-(

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

People need to get a grip and forget about Roy, last season we finished with a -25 goal difference, and were thumped in a number of games. We finished 14th, that's with defensive maestro Roy's "best squad evah" playing the worst football ever seen at Selhurst Park.
On the contrary, in Patrick's first season in the job sorting out the mess Roy left behind we are in 13th place with a -3 goal difference, and playing an attractive style of football that neutrals have remarked upon.
It's a season of renewal and of course there will be a few blips along the way, but all the Roy arse kissing worship really needs to stop, he's gone, get over it.

Quite agreed.

One point I'd pick up is the comparison with Southampton. In many ways they look to be a viable model for us to follow - it's a club I really admire. Generally attractive football and progressive managerial appointments.

They have of course sold plenty but that is because they have bought so well.

Given Roy's average win ratio I suspect they will end up with just under 36points if it goes to plan - maybe not enough - who knows.
Thankfully we don't play them for a long while, so no new Manager bounce against us for once!

We do have that re-arranged game coming up at some point too.

Anyway Will Hughes is bound to score the winner in one of them and then stick 2 fingers up to the owners!

I did notice the view of Roy was mixed - I mean not expecting much but if he can make us look like any half decent in defence we might have a chance.

I am surprised there are doubts about Vieira tbh.

If it were early in the season I would have given you a chance, Roy does what Roy does and for a season or two it works.

Roy , stands more chance than most, to keep Watford , in this league. It now looks like we have two more tough games on our plate.

Dear Roy
Your next assignment if you choose to accept it is to relegate Watford FC , not forgetting to make life a misery for Harry the fecking Hornet while you are at it .

Best of luck and wishing you all the success on completing the mission .

Could prove to be a very shrewd appointment by Watford.Hodgson has the vast experience and the tactical nous to ensure survival for Watford who are certainly not cut-adrift,have 18 games left to play, and as such have a real chance of avoiding the dreaded drop.

Yep

There are a few contenders for the title but Watford look to me to have the worst defence in the league and if he shores that up they have the firepower to nab enough goals on the break to eke out some results.

Isn't their main goal scorer Dennis suspended?

Exactly, a already wealthy man, maybe the psychiatrist would be better
