My only concern about him is how long can he keep up playing at the tempo he plays at before a major injury or burnout . Well he won’t play against Millwall so he’s got a bit of a break before the Brighton game which can only be a good thing.

NGL if we decide to go for another CB for experience I wouldn't say no to Phil Jones on a short term deal. He's put in a great shift for United today, now his knee is finally fixed, and could help the younger defenders like Guehi.

Kelly is not contributing so he may go if we get a younger centre back. Ditto riedewald and luka. 2 midfielders in and they could be gone. And a striker for mateta. Short term cover at left back also. It could be busy enough with a small net spend this would be an excellent window if it could be completed - and with o'Brien going to Swindon for experience and Banks, Rich-Baghuelou and Rak-Sakyi biting at the bit to get into the senior squad - the future looks bright for Palace.

Click bait and SSN are saying we won't be signing anyone this window, I am not counting youngsters in this statement. I am not surprised or unduly upset we are now in a position that we don't need to panic, the better run clubs tend to do their business in the summer anyway. I suspect that if the right player is available and the numbers make sense we would sign them but if the Arsenal kid or Juve are asking too much money there is not need to panic. It's time players and agents learned that palace are not a soft touch desperate to sign anyone.

For me, the January window is useful mainly to address only pressing, short-term needs. In other words, to bring in urgent help if you're mired in a relegation struggle or chasing a title, a top-four position, or promotion. This year, finally, we have no such needs. We're not going down, Europe in 6th place is a possibility though not overly likely so our season really boils down the FA Cup. And I don't think you can sign players, most of whom would already be cup-tied after the third round anyway, for a knockout tournament. We also have a fairly over-stocked (if not with the preferred level of quality) squad with a lot of young players seemingly about to come through. So standing still is fine; it makes sense to keep our powder dry for the summer when we can offload as well as bring in. My guess is we may be do something in this window but we won't pursue anything aggressively. If the right player, one that Vieira wants and who fits in with how he's trying to build the team, becomes available then we'll take him (Ramsay may be an example of this) but we won't go overboard to recruit anyone. It'll be more of a case of someone who fits falling into our lap. More likely, I think there are a range of fringe players who we'd sell if the right offer came in (Jairo, Kelly, even Luka). For me, the most likely deal would have been a new forward with Mateta moving out but the truth is, with a run of games finally under his belt and beginning to make an impact, that's seeming less likely by the week. A month ago, "anyone's better than Mateta" might have been a defensible argument but suddenly that's no longer the case. Other than the possibility of Ramsay coming in (if Juventus offer us a favourable deal and if the player wants to come to Palace), my guess is that we'll stand still in this window. Which is probably the right thing to do.

Got to be one of the quietest windows in recent times. Apart from Donny Van De Beek been strongly linked does not look like we will do much if any business. Kind of takes away a bit of excitement though but at least for the most part it free's up a lot of time posting / checking on various threads only to find out the player we are after has been signed by West Ham or along similar lines...

As I started the thread I thought I would bump my own original post, bad form I know.
"Will we do any business at all? I suspect that we will only buy if one of our key targets suddenly becomes available otherwise we will sit tight. For once we are not desperate for reinforcements. One player we might get is the young striker at Arsenal Eddie Nketiah who I believe is 6 months from a free transfer. He didn't seem keen to come in the summer but now that he has seen how well the team is playing under PV maybe he is tempted. Apart from that I don't see any others."

I’m not bothered if we don’t sign another striker or midfield player this window as we seem to have enough for time being. I thought the priority should have been to sign either a right or left back as cover/competition for Ward and Mitchell.
