Delighted to see Mercedes' appeal against Verstappen thrown out. The Germans are bad losers and expect to use their clout to influence decisions in their favour. I can see why some folk object to the result because Hamilton had led for most of the race. Fact is that F1 has rules regarding the deployment of the Safety Car. It allows teams to make pit stops and Red Bull chose to bring Max in for fresh tyres whilst Hamilton stayed out on a used set. At the restart Max was able to use his advantage to pass Hamilton and clinch the World Title. Good for Max. Shame for Hamilton. But not unfair. All played to the rules. Next season should be fun.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Don’t watch the F1 car precession but can’t avoid it at the moment. Am I correct in my understanding that Hamilton was 11 seconds ahead and due to the safety car Verstappen was allowed to close the gap with 1 lap to go, then overtake as he has fresher tyres?

"All played to the rules" that were modified twice while following the safety car, from no cars allowed to overtake the leader and then to only the five cars between Max and Lewis allowed to overtake.

Max boxed because he new he would still come out in second and had nothing to lose. Hamilton stayed out as he would lose his lead and under the rules the race should have finished following the safety car as there wasn't enough time for all the cars to pass and regroup behind the leaders.

Verstappen may well have celebrated but it's hard to call that a victory. Makes a farce of the sport.

It's no surprise to hear Clarkson and other notable brexit f**ts leading off in support of Verstappen's completely undeserved and false victory. They are like Johnsons brexit deal, addicted losers while emitting vacuous hot air. Since we left the EU British sport has been a total failure we are being beaten at everything. The pinnacle must be leading 5-0 against Germany in the Davis Cup but defeated 5-7, a feat thought nigh impossible. Cricket not won a thing a team with only one good player Root. Football euro final penalty angst accompanied by fan disgrace. Palace are a surprise, actually better fortunately though we have a French manager who doesn't just station 10 men behind the ball. Hamilton our last hope and deprived by a stitch-up, what sportsmanship he showed. Like anything from that part of the world, now imported here.

Love it the Brexit defence. I expect Eddie Howe and others to pick up on it any day now.

They knew if they if they didn't let those cars through past the safety car that Lewis would have won. They handed it to Max. Don't get me wrong if it was as a straight race and Max won then he won it fair and square but that was wrong and they knew it. At least Lewis took it gracefully .... lets see what happens next season.

I know Massy wanted a racing finish, but it just doesn't feel fair. He had a decision to make, keep the safety car out/not let lapped cars through, or do what he did. He picked the route that effectively put the championship down to 1 lap. Between a driver on 30 lap old hards and a driver on softs. In making that decision he would have known that he was effectively handing it to Max. If there was 20 laps to go, It might have been ok. But not on the last lap. Side note, but Bottas is a joke. In a situation like yesterday Lewis would have loved his team mate to be up with him helping him (like Perez did all weekend).

As people has said; Just a disgrace of a Race. How this can continue to be called a Sport is beyond me. There's so much wrong with this 'sport', but please lets at least learn from it and make it better; For me the most unjust of it all is the Safety Car rules. Surely now they must change. To have a system that effectively wipes out an advantage fairly gained on a field of sport - because of a completely unrelated incident is as unjust as it comes in sport. Yes, so you'll take away some excitement and entertainment, but that's big price to pay when your talking sport. The other thing that they can do is go all Touring car or Moto GP. - have 2 (or 3!) shorter races. this will eliminate the strategy element, and make Safety cars less costly to the outcome. The one thing it can't do is have another season like this year. Brundle said it's the most exciting it's been for 25 years. - but it's engineered excitement at the expense of sporting integrity.
