A mixed bag politically no doubt, but generally people who are very well off will have bigger portfolios and be closer to the ear of politicians. Politicians themselves are often landlords are so unfortunately have skin in the game. I would like to believe that there is the will in some quarters to do something about this problem, but feel that a tipping has has been reached where even many home owners are happy with it (seeing their home as a shrewd financial move, rather than a place to rest their head).

You make some good points and of course today we also see that billions of pounds worth of (often empty) properties are owned by a rogues gallery of types through shell accounts. No surprise of course, but telling that the government is always 'looking into it' rather than doing anything about actually forcing disclosure of who owns what. So any person or nation can already make the situation worse if they so desire.

I'm support any party that changed housing roles to the extent that many thousands of small, basic but perfectly liveable housing units could be built. Very basic starter homes if you like, that would at least offer people options rather than getting screwed over by a life of renting with nothing to show for it (where people do not want to rent of course), and would also put a bit of downward pressure of house prices for a change. This is perfectly doable, but of course won't happen.

You do not know what you are talking about. The article was showing a picture that referred to the (definately BREXs***) problems in the UK but was actually due to a Belgian strike. You Brexiters grabbed it like flotsum in a f***ing storm but it is as real as the bus rubbish you gullible sillies.

Also Your immigration rant does not belong in the world of things that are true. We have been supposedly drowning under the weight of immigration since the 50s.

Personally I am ok with the good things immigration brings and they out weigh the bad.

We had much higher immigration in the 50s but the immigrants mainly came into unionised jobs. There was a labour shortage then too, after the war, but because working class people were not dumbed down by a Tory press and knew what the neoliberalism actually meant they were not fooled.

Now a significant minority of working people actually believe a man that loves Thatcher, was a member of the austerity cabinet and is essentially a believer in neoliberalism will bring high wages through a few jokes.

I've tried to find stats on that but couldn't in the limited time I did it for.

However, it can be said that the post war immigration was controversial as is the argument that it was required....except for a low wage economy as I find your contention that it was for mostly union jobs point doubtful....in reality it would have been mixed along the lower wage employment areas.

The bloke in the second link, Jacob, is someone I can admire. Some might say, in a crisis like we are having in gb, that any HGV driver, with a few months to spare, should be in his cab , delivering fuel, turkeys and vegetables to keep our old folks alive! This guy is taking on a challenge instead, rowing the Atlantic, some might consider it a jolly-not me! To share in this epic achievement, Jacob is allowing you to pay for it, with a crowdfunding page, this is solely so you can say you had a hand in it, sharing the spoils so to speak! This brings me on to a challenge I have always considered myself, after one of my great heroes, Fletcher Christian-of the bounty fame! My -or "our" challange, as you will find out, is to see if I can survive, for a whole year, on the Pitcairn islands, in the South Pacific! Your generous donations h.o.l will be for me to sleep within 200 meters of the beach, whether in a hammock in the afternoon siesta, or one of the beach houses past the white sand! I will only be allowed to drink rum and beer on a night, no more than 30 measures a day, eat lobster, fish or crab, apart from a few roast beef /chicken dinners on a weekend, and tortilla chips to complement the beer.
