The BBC and Sky seem to be making quite an effort to legitimise this abomination. Is this really an exciting mass market spectator sport as they’d have us believe, or are they just caving in to the baying of wimmin demanding equality which would otherwise be unobtainable? Personally, I have no interest in watching football played to the standard you’d find in a half decent school’s First XI. The whole thing’s a travesty. Discuss. My son told me that the Barcelona under 15 team beat their women’s team 8 nil. Just about sums up the standard of elite women’s football. Some may be interested but it’s not for me.

Don't forget the bbc's feast of diversity & inclusitivity flag ship program this afternoon, no, not strictly, "Ladies & Gentlemen"(am i still allowed to say that), The Womens FA Cup Final.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Is this why there is no televised Premier League football on a Sunday, despite there being a full programme? I can’t remember this happening before.

Sky sports news.....yesterday. In the middle of reporting all the mens games, they have some 'larger than life' woman with clipped dyed hair shouting about the womens FA cup game. why do they always need to invade our space ? if they wish to go off and follow womens football themselves then fine. But not when i am trying to get the Palace updates. Edited by PalazioVecchio (21 Dec 2021 9.24am)

I don't have any problem with women's football, but, in the end it has to stand on its own two feet. The BBC, in particular, has given much publicity and air time to the women's game, and this has certainly raised its profile. However, the question is, has there been a corresponding growth of interest in the game and in attendances? If the answer is yes, then all well and good. Alternatively, if there has only been a marginal growth in interest then there really should be some revision in the amount of exposure it gets, and the level of coverage should equate to this.

Agreed. I believe that in terms of the professional game apoart from the odd big match the attendance has actually gone down in spite of the World cup success and the mass coverage from the BBC. Minority sports always complain if we only we had more airtime we wouldn't be a minority sport. Well as you say they have had plenty of coverage for a number of years at some point the BBC should reflect on that, other sports are available.

Fara Williams complains that clubs put players in fat clubs, err yup. This is the 2nd elite sportswomen I have read in the last few months complaining about weight issues. I think the other was a gymnast. It's elite sport you cannot afford to carry any timber.

I've seen several live games , primarily Everton and Man U, as a spectacle the standard is on a par with first division/ lower championship. But my daughter enjoys them. Lacks the raucous atmosphere of the mens game but it's safe. No hooligans, no racism, just family friendly .

I would say it is the equivalent of National League North/South. Nowhere near league1 /lower Championship

It's good to get people involved in sport, and while it's clearly pushed way beyond the interest level, it's of a level that pertains to what it is, so can be enjoyed none the less (as in we don't complain that women sprinters are much slower than men etc)..
