No, it's either or for this first game. Not sure what their plans are for future games (but then neither are the club by the sound).

Okay, so I now have a blue looking card in my iPhone wallet I assume I use this in future to get into the ground. I also have a pdf of a ticket for Saturday with a Q code on it which if I go on Saturday (daughter’s birthday) I will show on my phone. Greta would not be pleased if I printed it out :-)

It does seen to me to be a little strange that in one sense the club introducing a whole new system to those that embrace technology and have why and wherefore to be able to use it is fine.
I just don't see why the club cannot also continue to run it's existing season ticket plastic card system as well for those that are either tech savvy or do not want to switch over. There are many reasons some are nothing to do with technology etc.
A lot of reasons are just down to not only individuals but groups and families of fans and how they manage their season tickets and the club have just totally failed/ignored/not bothered to research how this new ticketing might now affect them.
They should have left things as they were for this season and then conducted some decent research ahead of next season.

Good post!
I've heard of one fan who is on his mate's phone as he was the one who organised their tickets.
When he asked the Box Office that if his mate is on holiday (with the tickets on the phone app) would he not be able to go to the match, he was told that was correct!

This is where the lack of research highlights itself.

I download the PDF for a paper ticket. Why it has to be on A4 size paper with the QR code on the small strip across the bottom, I don't know. Waste of paper and printing ink. Really need to sort this mess out. I am not that tech savvy. I have an iPhone with the apple wallet but not sure I did it right and also have a friend on the same email. So went back to paper ticket. I don't want to print every ticket each home game. I'll pop into apple at Bromley and let them sort it. What a cock up.

I may be an old bugger, I don’t have a problem with the change to the new system, times change, we used to write with a quill ! The world moves forward all the time.

It’s the timing, telling us a week before the first game. The club state they have spent time investing in technology to introduce the system, so they must have known at least a month ago if not longer. Why couldn’t they have told us in advance. The club just seem to be doing their best to alienate us supporters.

This move for paperless everything is an insidious invasion of our personal liberty. I understand why it's happening and it doesn't bother me too much, but it makes me uncomfortable.

Some of the examples quoted on here about folk without smart phones etc are a case in point.

Down here we're close to Polo lawns and we often go to watch a game or two for an afternoon's entertainment. Until yesterday we haven't been since the 2019 season. It's free to watch, but I still had to go through the rigmarole of getting 'tickets' on my phone so the bloke on the gate could scan them to let us in. Crazy.

I'm not really capable of going to Selhurst any more, but I do have fond memories of making a spur of the moment decision to go to a match, turning up at the Holmesdale turnstiles, buying a ticket and Bob's yer uncle.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Call me a Luddite if you will.
But surely the system with the plastic card was far more fan friendly.
I didn't have to down load attachments, or put things in digital wallets, or worry about my phone being charged.
I didn't have to do anything, I just turned up at the turnstile with my card.

My son in law had my ticket on his phone as we were linked sure to covid and attending together. Or something like that :-) He sent it to me via WhatsApp as a pdf and a link, so you can load it onto your phone. He also in linked our account so that tickets will now be sent to me (hopefully that works). Bit of a rigmarole but it can be done. Next problem is that Palace took 3 full payments (we had another linked) for our season tickets for which I’m now a senior season ticket holder. They owe him (me) over £100, so that will be fun trying to get that back :-(
