Some of the footage coming out of Kabul Airport at the moment is nuts. Claims of civilians being shot by US troops, people clinging onto, then falling to their deaths, the wings of departing aircraft. Apache attack helicopters trying to clear crowds from run-ways by essentially flying low enough that if they don't move, then their heads get removed by the blades.

It is the definition of FUBAR.

Yep, this is a complete disaster.

Good people dying due to political incompetence.

People need to be held to account both for the political orders and its military implementation.....if they were given what they needed.

If they cannot secure that runway, then there are a lot of British and US troops on the ground with no way out. From what I understand, there are no land options available.

Maybe all those young men trying to escape need to grab a gun and turn and fight. It seems they may die anyway if the taliban get to the airport and go about their business as expected.

And this is where I started the first post. I think the media coverage has implanted (additional) fear into any potential resistance groups of the Taliban. If the western countries are scrambling to get their diplomats and troops out safely, then this is only going to instill a greater sense of fear/panic in the Afghan population ?
How scared do you have to be to jump on the outside of a moving aircraft on a runway ?

the images are horrendous, and to an extent, self-perpetuating.

I disengage, I turn the page.

I'm watching Kenya and Ireland making a speech. Wonderful, I'm sure they'll do a lot about it.

Allah help them as well. Just to be PC as this is what got them there. No PC rules on the battlefield and the taliban would have been gone. Self fulfilling prophecy by the woke brigade protecting terrorists.

Woke people should have watched more episodes of The Simpson's.

The idiolistic woke groups have greated anyone that appose uppose them with vitriol and hate, despite claiming to be tolerant (they sound a bit like the Taliban). They were told time and time again that worse would happen if the West don't intervene, but they were too arrogant to listen.

Now all you can do is hope the people in Afghanistan will be safe, and the violence doesn't spread.

40 million people thrown to the wolves.

10 million of them are of fighting age though.
Quite a force if they had some bollox.
If they all turned in every city the taliban would be gone in days. I mean gone, wiped, dead end of.
Won't happen though as the west has mothered and convinced these people that peace be upon you.
As I said earlier, I dislike the man very much much biden has a point in what he said, freedom comes at a cost and that is blood sadly.

I'd agree that Biden and co have made serious miscalculations in handling this....then again, that seems to be everything they touch with this being no different.

But I have to some points to make on what you wrote:

Firstly the size of the army reflects the will of that people to fight for the society they want. They are good wages compared to what's on offer elsewhere.

You don't need air cover to fight.....if you actually want to fight something against militant Islam. Some in Afghanistan would have especially the trained special forces but it has never had the numbers in terms of vanguard soldiers....the ones who do the killing that wins battles. While that Taliban have those in droves. Badger made the point why that is earlier, the Taliban have degrees of support outside the cities....which is most of the country.

Secondly, the Americans have given the Afghan army considerable equipment, including planes and training for decades. The only reason the Taliban aren't in the air using it now is because they don't have the training for those planes.

The Taliban now have some serious equipment to add to their willingness to fight.

The Taliban maintained and operated 5 L-39 Albatross Fighters during the civil war with the Northern Alliance, the original 5 have since fallen into disrepair/blown up but the west (I believe it was Slovakia/Czech Republic) actually sold a load of new ones to the Afghan Air force, its not much of a leap that the Air & groundcrew flipped sides to align more closely with their tribes & the Taliban.

So yeah its likely the Taliban have a squadron of fighter Jets & the means to maintain/fly them.

Ironically out here was a bit of an air display the other week and I watched a Mig 21 & a L-39 Albatross do a few flybys.

I also got the chance to have a play with an AR-15 rifle showing up a Slovak soldier (who didnt have a clue) in the process, he got the hump and told me to put it down but I digress.
