I like Kelly. He always gives his all. But his ability is limited. There were a few times under Pardew when he was caught out, particularly when he was being asked to fill in at left back. One clanger that springs to mind was an end of season game at Liverpool. We've definitely had worse players. As a £1m signing way back when he's been great value for the club. As long as players give there all that's good enough for me. If they don't have the ability to play at this level, then that manager that signed them should take accountability. To use his time at LB to highlight his failings is very unfair. Kelly was not a left sided player and clearly showed it. It was heartless of Pardew to do that to him.

I can only endorse the support for Kelly but to get this thread back on track, the signing of Joachim Andersen would be another fantastic addition to our squad. A first choice centre back pairing of him and Guehi is a mouth watering prospect. I hope our club confirm this signing later on today. If so, that would be the CB position done for me and time to concentrate on a winger, LB and midfielder. It is looking promising as we’ve still got the two loan positions to fill.

Pardew was responsible for absolutely destroying Kelly's confidence that season for persistently playing him in a position that he clearly could not play. As for the 'worst player in 5 years' comment by whoever it was, they clearly never watched Benteke for 2 and a half seasons. Edited by kennybrowns leftfoot (26 Jul 2021 8.50am)
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |

Especially given that Jordan Mutch was also stealing a living at Palace for 4 years ! Hope the Andersen deal comes off. He looks decent.

1. I would expect Tomkins and Andersen to be the first choice partnership to begin our season. Guehi will get his chances but we need a CB pairing with PL experience in those early difficult games. Yes, I would agree with that. Guehi will get his chances, unfortunately, when Tomkins is out injured. I presume that we either wont renew Tomkins contract at the end of the season or, if we do, he will be offered a new one on reduced terms as he becomes back-up to the Andersen/Guehi partnership. Assuming that the deal is done!
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

Depends on current protocols re players on holiday entering the UK. He can hardly have been in a bubble on a Greek beach! If he is double jabbed he won't have to self isolate

Really good work done so far improving on the ones that we’ve let go. Really hoping we sign a striker next - Edouard would be the cherry on top!

It is reported that he was off to Spurs but Nuno arrived and killed their bid. I hope he is happy with us as sloppy seconds? In any event, the club are doing some very good business.
