It was a fairly common country pastime....

milk puddings: semolina with a blob of jam in for school dinners - rice pudding Turkish style with rose water and the zest of citrus fruit fine, but the rest ... frog spawn or training for giving blow jobs. and Tommy Cooper: "How do you start a milk pudding race?" anyone know the answer?

Say go. We used to get rose hip syrup in semolina.

I thought they were unique in serving Matteus Rose (in basket) with chop suey and sweet and sour pork balls. It's all coming back now, Homepride sweet and sour sauce, the Pilsbury dough men (?) and Vesta curries, back in the days when only Josh Ackland was allowed to do voice overs for commercials. When people accuse me of schadenfreud I like to reply that I prefer Liebfraumilch - you can use that line whenever you want, I'm not claiming copyright. And now the ads in cinemas for local businesses - you had your Pearl and Dean for Benson and Hedges and Kia Ora orange then the ultra low budget ads for local job agencies or crap restaurants ("this restaurant is so good even the chef eats here" I remember for a Greek Taverna back in Saint Reatham). Enjoy this ...
