That was it ... for the first two years we were based down at Carew Manor. Had to walk up to the main school for lunch in all weathers. Then from year 3 we were allowed in the main building. Wasn't Elmwood the school on the other side of the park? We used to have conker fights with them ... well, at least pelt each other with conkers in season.

Yes, Elmwood was the other side of the park and there were certainly fights, can't remember conkers being involved though. Yours was a Grammar, ours a Secondary Modern, so there was a kind of cultural difference too. We had to walk across the park to the open air pool at Carew Manor once a week. No heating and the water was always bloody freezing. Did you swim there too? BTW your old boys school now admits girls to the sixth form. I bet they have fun!

No, fortunately we didn't have the dubious pleasure of the open air swimming pool. We only occupied a few rooms and an annex at Carew Manor on the LH side as you looked at it from the front. Speaking of Billy Bunter ... I remember a film was made at the Manor (called "IF" Girls? Shocking ... whatever next?

One of my favourite films. There was a lot of debate about the significance of some scenes being filmed in black & white - Lindsay Anderson said it was because he’d run out of money.

I'll watch it again for fun. Interestingly, the Manor was used as an orphanage for a time and that's how it was known in our house.

I was given a record token Christmas 1965.I can't remember who gave it to me but they obviously weren't aware I didn't own a record player. In due course though the obligatory Dansette was purchased and the token exchanged for Hold Tight by Dave Dee, Dozy etc. and Dedicated Follower of Fashion by the Kinks.
