It's an area of the team we seem to be perennially weak, demonstrated by the number of times we end up playing McArthur wide in a 4-4-2. Schlupp is often injured, Banks is going to be a couple of years off and could do with proving it in the Championship, Zaha is playing centrally...

Even if he does come in as a squad player, he looks the right age and price point to be worthwhile. Probably won't set us alight, but knows the league so won't bomb. We have to be looking at bringing in ~5 players under 25 this year with very little revenue coming in so to get one at this price seems a no brainer?

26th January 2010 - Enter Administration
2nd May 2010 - D-Day 1 - Survival at Hillsborough
1st June 2010 - D-Day 2 - Survival at Lloyds
7th June 2010 - CPFC2010 exchange contracts.

Schlupp did far more for us.

They are similar in a sense, that there is something there, they aren't s***. Schlupp flicked between sublime and ridiculous for us, Gray can similarly do something sublime. But he could also not kick on an it doesn't work out. What transfers aren't without risk!

They are the sort of signing that's a knife edge, could be terrible, could be great. I think that's about what I said about Schlupp as well.

For the money it's a no brainer really, even if it's as a backup. If he was playing in the championship you'd be paying £20m+ for him.

Can nobody else imagine Wilf having had the identical career to Gray if Wilf had gone to an aspiring Champions league side when he was 21 or 22?

In and out of the 1st team with more experienced, consistent players ahead of him, questions about his attitude and temperament...to me, the parallels are stark. As are their career statistics at similar ages.

Get him in, make him feel loved, have a £50m player on our hands.

Yes i agree . I think it is all about man management with the younger players , if you try to use the stick with them it can back fire in a big way , they sulk whinge and whine throw strops and wont try hard if they go against you .Its all about massaging their egos and sitting down and talking to them and not talking down to them . Good Mental health is the biggest motivator for footballers. Roy comes across as a caring father figure . But i wouldnt tread on his corns .

Not like we needed a young winger. Townsend is doing great and we've loads of cover.

You obvs have no clue about football if you think Andros is doing a good job.

Double the asking price, double his salary, whatever, it would still be a steal but again we let an opportunity slip through our hands.

Anyway now Benteke is going to have his contract extende at three times the price of Grey. Good business. I’m sure that will give the fans big relief.
