Again, who is holding Ofqual to task?

Seems the highly paid ( 200k ) head of national statistics who oversees projections of covid and other important things has been working from home past three months.....IN CANADA

The mechanics of Govt in England are something of a joke, from the Home Office to procurement of ferries etc etc.

we need a big broom with sharp brush to sweep through Govt departments.

The shocking waste of money will never be disclosed to the public.

There would probably be a well funded NHS and much better funded services if the waste could be eliminated

Just gets worse and worse, don't see Boris unfortunately being very effective. His basic ingrained defects are now being exposed, inability to take criticism, lack of grasp of detail, desire to be popular etc etc. Rishi would be very good IMHO but needed in No.11 at the moment.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

There will be fewer overseas students.

Heard it from a guy being interviewed on the radio.
Only the messenger. Foreign students will pay for their place and come when its safe. Work remotely until then I reckon.

I'm surprised the problem with the algorithm wasn't spotted earlier - there must have been a qa exercise.

Is having a go at this algorithm and being intolerant of algorithms in general algorithmism?

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

I thought the same. Who in their right mind at Ofqual ever considered such an algorithm to be best approach when it clearly penalised so many? This in itself demonstrates serious questions regarding competence. What is also known is that Education Secretary did not intervene / consult until far too late and long after the algorithm had been confirmed.

Those of us in Education know all too well that A-Levels and GCSEs debacle is tip of the iceberg (see earlier message detailing concerns by Public Accounts Committee re: DfE) Somebody also needs to be challenging competence of Schools Minister, Nick Gibbs as well as dreadful Early Years Minister, Vicky Ford (who has so far responded impotently to closure of many Early Years facilities and will be leaving many young families struggling for EY provision come September)

There must be years of results data that could have remodelled, using an untested algorithm seems unlikely.

Taking the teachers preducted results for their students surely means they have seen the exam papers. How do they know if what they have taught is even in the exam. Not everything can be tested and going forwards are their predictions now going to be super duper high in the future. Goner look like right mugs in a couple of years when the chavs actually sit the exams and go compare will prove they over exaggerate their pupils ability and knowledge. Can see a whole lot of problems when these kids go to uni and cant understand the first bit because they got upgraded and are basically not clever enough to be there.

I think that is a valid point. Most pupils will have strengths and weaknesses if all questions relate to their strengths they are an "A" student or vice versa.

I presume when the predicted grades were made the teachers did not know they would be used as the final results so maybe they might have changed their thinking.

I agree, however it must also be noted that universities have also lowered their standards considerably.

Essentially it's less about standards and the idea of a robust education and more about being a business. The people who run these institutions aren't the romantic vision that we might wish they would be.

It's just another victim of neo liberalism....the economic brother of social liberalism.

HKOwen - very good point indeed!
Central and Local Government offices are deserted and many of those "working from home" are unable to be contacted - I have tried by the way to do just that!
The DVLA is barely working and I am sure it is the same all over the Country.
Happy days to be a Public Servant when as such you don't even have to serve the Public!
This does not of course apply to those re-making the ever changing Covid rules, the refuse collectors, Doctors, Nurses, Police, Fire and the like!

Lying so and so,s
Hope they're happy with their lies.
Kids futures are now well and truly f***ed due to their heads being swelled by rampant over estimating.

I couldn't be bothered with 'A' levels and went straight to my first job, Chancellor of the Exchequer.
