As it's clearly impossible to judge yesterday by the standards of today anyone who attempts to do is foolish. That said deciding not to re-broadcast something because it might now cause offence is another matter unless there is a context which is explained. That's for the broadcasters to judge. My Mum was an awful racist. But that was 60 years ago and if she was alive today I would have expected her to have learned and changed. She wasn't a bad person at all. She was kind and loving, but also ignorant in the context of what we know now. Whilst most of us have managed to adjust our thinking and realised that whilst the mistakes of the past cannot be undone we can avoid making them again, there remains a hardcore element whose views seem much more akin to my Mum's in the 50s than mine today. Such a pity, especially when they are so clearly in denial of that. Such people can be found here. Not all, by any means, but what is sad is that the decent people don't call out the racists. You know they exist. Challenge them. This site has always been heavily overpopulated with people holding right-wing views, some of them extremely so, although they, of course, deny that. There have only ever been a handful of those who represent mainstream opinion and most of them have become tired of arguing with brick walls. It has though gone markedly downhill in recent weeks. Some of the posts have appalled me, but no-one picks them up. Even the moderator seems to have given up on you all. Reflect on that for a moment. So now that it is just an echo chamber of self-righteous hatred you won't be seeing much more of me. You carry on together and I will take comfort in knowing that you are a totally unrepresentative bunch of losers whose sole purpose seems to be to confirm each other's biases. I might dip in from time to time for amusement. A tragedy, but I feel certain that everyone will eventually come to terms with the loss, painful as it may be.

Being a right wing thinker doesnt make you racist. I’d like to see a brief list of opinions he’s been recently appalled by. While this site doesn’t do the fawning, compassionate bollox that doesn’t get anywhere worthwhile, it also doesn’t hate or want to oppress anybody and anybody that deserves a fair chance should get one, and in this country you get a better chance than most, if not all other countries. So come on then, let’s see a brief list of things he’s been appalled by.

The fact that you disagree with an opinion, or that the Daily Mail does agree with it doesn’t automatically make a person a rabid right wing zealot or indeed a loser; just someone who’s tired of being told they’re wrong all the time, tired of seeing their way of life constantly criticised and eroded and tired of the condescension of the self righteous, self appointed arbiters of What’s Acceptable.

Everything she says is far too sensible for today’s world so I expect her to be ignored and instead someone else without the credentials or experience to get nowhere with their changes. Probably excuse homework or something stupid.

Thank you. I popped back to see what the reaction was. Yours was the only unpredictable one. You, and a few of the others, were amongst those I had in mind when I referred to decent people who don't call out the racism. I completely understand that those who hold different views can do so with honour. There are though some views which cannot be held with honour by decent people. being fiscally and socially conservative is perfectly acceptable. Being racist isn't. There are some here who are racist, although deeply in denial of that fact.

The majority of their base are 'feelings before facts' anyway and those with power are afraid to do nothing but bend to them. And groups like BLM have been given massive, mind bending sums of money. Katharine is going to be heard a lot more. I do recognise her, but many more will now hear her wise words:
