Its doing more damage than the blitz did.

A monument to the tory years.

No wonder ex-tory PMs Johnson May and Cameron, Mayors Burnham, Khan Northern Mayors Labour etc. all want it to continue.

At least Stalin's canal did actually connect two places.

All these people high on other people's money want to spend into oblivion.

The poor connectivity at Euston an obvious flaw, who is seriously going to want to go to Old Oak Common to go to Birmingham.

Despite murdering millions Stalin was not so bad due to a canal.

This would be comedy gold from you if it was intended as humour.

The anti semite lauder in full flow.

I am not sure if you are pretending for comic effect or really posting your views.

The shear mis-management and incompetence is staggering. Allowing 'informed' people to buy property on the proposed route and then Compulsorily Purchase at vastly inflated prices with Mega-bucks to "those-in-the-know".
Cost re-evaluations and lack of consideration for price fluctuations has added to the financial woes. Re-routing and cutting of sections. Contingency budgets blown to smithereens.

So the North looks like it will not be getting the HS2. Why not just wind that track section around London and the South-East where all the money is ?

Probably there will be a fudged delay to the Manchester section despite the infrastructure authority saying the project is 'unachievable'.

But not to the political class left and right.

The future of the north, the beacon of levelling up, the custodian of national pride. Forget value for money. This is about patriotism. Don’t criticise (your HS2 needs you).

A total dud from the first trying to connect to two dead-end termini, Curzon Street and Euston.

Not Scotland, the Channel Tunnel, Europe (St.Pancras), Leeds the North or even Euston itself, not one airport, but another new station making the journey actually longer not shorter.

The damage to peoples lives properties and the environment is incalculable.

And its backward, the USB2, not HS2 of railways.

What a fantastic concept it was but it doesn't, and never did, do what it says on the tin.

Or even better, just tarmac over the HS2 route and make a motorway with service stations that sell diesel and petrol. And Ginsters pies.

Do you have absolutely no taste or have you never tried a Ginsters pie

You rarely find one in Cornwall let alone see a Cornishman eating one.

They are made only just over the Devon border, close to the A30 so their Cornish provenance can be established and they can also be swiftly transported to the unsuspecting hordes up country.

The HS2 supporters have been briefed to parrot " once it's built and being used no one remembers the cost"

Crossrail/QEL has provided some real alternative route choices albeit at a high cost.

HS2 is on a different scale of vanity, there are so may other railway needs the money could be spent on.

For me it is indefensible.

Sunak has inherited this and at least seems he will make a decision.

Why is anyone surprised that HS2 is way over budget, late, and not going to deliver what it set out to do. Such fiascos repeat themselves time after time with government projects and government activities in general. Governments are the problem. The overwhelming major benefit of the EU is the escape from a massive layer of government. Other layers of government should be abolished, regional parliaments, city mayors, metropolitan and borough councils, police commissioners and most of the quangos. Government should deal with the essentials and keep well away from everything else.

Hmm We could always just abolish Parliament and elections that would save money.

We should certainly abolish the Welsh and Scottish parliaments.

HS2 has always looked like a phenomenal waste of money just to save a few minutes on the train journey to Manchester.

Osborne and Hestletine claim that stopping the project will cause irreparable damage to the North. How? Far better to spend the money on new hospitals.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

I used to look forward to my trip from Euston to Birmingham, the relaxed feeling of comfort and following the Grand Union Canal, at the other end just a step to my destination.

It felt like an experience each time, there's something about a train journey.

And its dying.

The death of the ticket office, soulless contactless world, automatic machines (often not working) connections miles from anywhere no help but talk into this machine.

And these days you can probably do the work from your office anyway.

If this had been what the brochures initially described a streamlined national project connecting us to the regions, to the airport and Europe, if it was actually deliverable, I would have been its greatest supporter.

My brain agrees with you but my heart says no. When ever people point out how badly the country is doing under the Tories I say look to the Socialist paradises of Scotland and Wales.

Nah let's keep them the latest wheeze 20mph speed limit in Wales, I hear the locals love it , still they voted for them.

Good few years ago since I last went on a train and then it was crowded and a fairly unpleasant experience with ridiculously confusing ticket prices and unhelpful staff.
