If that is the case we could offload Sakho's massive wages and try and get Reidewald to step up a level in Luka's place. According to the coaches that is his natural position, but if he is not good enough then he needs to go too and then we will need a replacement.

There are an awful lot of players out there that would jump at the opportunity to join us, its just a shame our scouts are so poor that we only appear capable of unearthing gems like Jach and Sorloth. If Luka thinks he is worth £100k a week then lets see if someone will pay it on top of a transfer fee. He is good, he is our captain, but he is replaceable. Wow, what a naive post. We’re not a mid table team. We spend 33 games in the bottom 4-6. We pick up more points vs teams in flip flops at end of the season. How many players have jumped to join us in recent summers then? Or have we all imagined West Ham and whoever else nicking our targets, hence why we keep a close shop. You’re leaving the possibility of Luka leaving for nothing, after you sad lyrical about how players are falling over themselves to join us. Not only is it illogical but if we were that well run we would get and have everything in order to encourage him to stay. It’s also bad business. Finally you don’t seem to understand that free agents can negotiate higher wages because they’re, erm, free, with no transfer fee cost.

Sakho is the player that when he’s unavailable, our start of play is often pretty awful. He can also Marshall the halfway line and play balls through the lines from the halfway line. We need to find a cheaper replacement but currently he’s miles above the others and it’s noticeable without him playing the way we do, which was our aim to have possession about 4 years ago and more isn’t it?

I am a SP supporter but the facts are it costs a fortune to run a PL club these days and he just doesn't have the funds to take Palace further. We need investment sooner rather than later IMO

I hope this is clearer... We miss Sakho because the others are noticeably inferior. We could do with a cheaper alternative who isn’t any of our current CB’s. I can’t believe I’ve had to clarify that. I agree we’d miss Sakho more than AWB, and that we’d struggle to buy a better alternative, but an alternative we’d have to find who is nearly as good, or a partnership that is as or more productive than Sakho plus any of the other 3. We also have the wage bill issues and Sakho is on £100k. We should’ve been looking at alternatives anyway because even if you or anyone CPFC doesn’t like it, there’s rumours Sakho wants to return to France. Hopefully we have some idea how we’ll deal with that when it happens. He won’t be signing an extension I’d have thought with intentions to return to France so this must be dealt with. Here’s hoping.

Here’s hoping. you are correct we do need to do something about the wage bill, and of course if sakho wants to go home to psg then we shouldn't stand in his way as long as we can recoup at least £20m for him. i dont think the issue is solely down to the fact 3 players earn over 100k, some squad players are earning decent money like dann on 60k, i think ayew was on 70k last season, this is where we could be better by promoting youngsters from the academy on a relative pittance. interestingly enough i saw this tweet earlier, which simply maps our finances since promotion. its a good read [Tweet Link]

We have drastically reduced our wage bill already with the number of players we have let go. At some point we have to stop and actually increase our squad size otherwise we are in the dogs doo doo

Most clubs of our size struggle after seven years in the premier league Go ahead picking the arse out of every decision that’s been made or accept it for what it is. The problem isn’t the club but the sh1t show modern football is. Without paying the wages we’d have gone through the trap door ages ago.

I would like to know how much was spent on all this new stand stuff i bet it was an awful lot for a project that was never going to happen. what does size have to do with anything you build your brand which is what matters Palace has not advanced in this area we have US owners yet not really had a dent in that country which is poor. We don't even appear to sell shirts or other merch outside club shops. Edited by grumpymort (21 Jul 2019 5.54pm)
