Have faith. Didn't the wonderful 2005 series start with a loss?

It did, feels different though.

I can't see the remaining four pitches being prepared to suit the Aussies though as they are likely to be seaming pitches as the enemy aren't used to the moving ball

Jimmy Anderson definitely out of the second test so I assume that Joffers will take his place assuming that he's fully fit.

I expect that Roy, Bairstow and Ali will be given another chance but if Jason Roy doesn't show that he's got the right temperament for five day cricket he will probably be dropped

I expect a win at Lord's but still think the Aussies are favourites for the series. I believe a test side needs an outstanding batsman with a couple of decent ones, at least two decent seamers and at least one decent spinner.
Think about England and the right balance is not there. Even our fielding doesn't seem the best recently. I don't think being good at one day matches has helped the test side.

County cricket in Spring and Autumn only doesn't help and the huge number of foreign players over here on Kolpak deals or with European grandparents doesn't help either

Going tits up again I see. Looks like we need accept they just have a very good bowling attack, and some of our top order batsman are just not upto it.

A good post.
A familar story of batting woe.
Pathetic performance.

A positive is Burns is a genuine opener. That's about it. Hopefully, Archer can prove something too. England need about 3 new batsmen - wherever they are going to come from.

Our white ball batting heros have proved woefully inadequate at test level.
All these wicket-keeper/batsmen and all-rounders selected because of a dearth of quality genuine batsmen.

Woakes putting the batsmen to shame. To bat into tomorrow would be a decent achievement. Perhaps Bairstow can make a good score. Broad and Archer can bat a bit too. England need overcast conditions when they bowl.
