So the board moan that our wage bill is to high yet seem to be interested in paying an older player with no resale value on 70k a week. REALLY

But the equation is incomplete if you ignore age. Max Meyer may have a resale value - whereas Cahill won't. True. But basically everybody we’ve signed in our whole PL stay doesn’t have a resale value and we’ve paid fees on top of wages for all of those. Kouyate, Tomkins, Sakho, Kelly, PVA etc etc all don’t have any resale value either.

PVA would certainly have a sell on value, hes quite an attractive prospect to a team that plays on the front foot where defending is almost the second job behind playing as a winger.

If the players are young should we not be trying to keep them for as long as possible? Having seen Dann on Saturday, I am afraid his time is up as a Premiership defender. Sakho and Tompkins are injury prone, obviously Reidewald does not fit into Roy's plans. So although I am a little sceptical I think this is a must signing

It's all very well talking about the age of the people you are buying, but our recent investments in younger players, Sorloth, Jach, Riedewald have not been succesful The problem is that for most teams in the division survival depends on experienced players. The four youngest teams we have put out in the Premier League were the four times we were relegated. Wolves won a lot of praise last year with what was by some way the oldest team in the division

I'll be happy if we get him in.

You'd need someone more knowledgeable than me but I seem to recollect Cahill playing Right Back sometimes. I do find that a little disconcerting. I would still want a right full back to replace AWB.

I don't object to this if Cahill is replacing Dann (great as Dann was, I feel he's a player who needs to play each week). But we really really really MUST get a right back starter. Ideally one with a good whipped cross and reasonable defensive attributes.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |
