I don't think you'd end up with many refuges. What you would get is some protection from unfair treatment from the British Consulate which would make things more difficult for China. Was more pointing out about the wild ideas that were floating around some months ago about bio weapons and Chinese interference with social media.

More trouble with China. India is possibly the only nation with the manpower to compete with China. I wonder if a devisive viral video will circulate today?

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

i was listening to a radio discussion yesterday, which raised a couple of points. And Asian culture, and specifically China, can be considered quite brutal, compared to western attitudes. If China wants something, then it's pointless negotiating.

Taiwan is not a land grab for China, it's a reunification with a secessionist province. The land mass of Hong Kong is irrelevant to China, the recovery was a matter of national prestige and gives the huge amount of illegal wealth in China to be laundered in the neighbourhood. In 1997 at the time of the handover Hong Kong represented 16% of China's GDP, now just 3%. People have to accept China is biggest kid on the block with the biggest stick. Your stuff in bold is the prevalent position. China's leadership and their "don't give a fook" mentality. The inevitable conclusion is one of assimilation and compliance to the new regime.

Tourism in Hong Kong is overwhelmingly from China. From when the protests started last year combined with a very prevalent anti Mainland Chinese sentiment from people who describe them selves as Hong Kongers tourism is pretty much screwed. The home grown Ocean Park theme park has run out of money and Hong Kong Disney only getting Chinese visitors from Southern China after Shanghai Disney opened. The convention and exhibition business was decimated by the riots quickly followed by Covid. All in all, hospitality business in a terrible place.

I suddenly remembered Hong Kong Fuey - I hope he's okay. He's probably being re-educated. Or his filing cabinet had a little accident.
