For the record you were OK with having less police on a different thread

Who’s fault or responsibility is it that people carry knives and get one out over an argument? I don’t think the number of police are to blame. There are many things to do with the offender and the community and the legal system in this country. And you cannot have 2 police officers every 200 yards everywhere.

I’m all for ramming them with car bumpers, whether they’re in a car, on a bike, or on foot. But you’re probably a lot more compassionate towards someone who wants to slice someone up or stick a knife into a crucial body organ, or just blame austerity, poverty and then police rather than the vermin in and around this.

Lets appoint several thousand extra police then wait 20 minutes for the complaints about harassment to begin.
If their primary objective is to prevent crime then arm them all with a shoot to kill directive. That should make everyone feel safer.

You know what, it wasn’t the fact there were police around that I didn’t own, use or carry a knife. I also got stopped a couple of times because of some crimes that happened that day (probably new officer training) and was stopped loads of times in the car I paid for myself. It didn’t last forever.

London is not for everyone. It’s possible that those on this thread who have moved away due to not enjoying it anymore are experiencing a change of view due to getting older. That’s ok, it doesn’t mean things are necessarily getting worse in London.

Mostly I see things improving, gentrification suits me quite well although I have sympathy for long term residents priced out. I see plenty of jobs, we are statistically safer everyday. Don’t let high profile terrorist attacks or reporting of knife crime fool you. The food gets better every day, the women are great, getting a date is easy, public transport is cheap, now we have the night tube.

Life is good.

Good post.

The police used to break up groups of three or four lads and send you off in different directions which was a pain if you were going to play football. It was quite clear too because back then people didn’t wear football shirts unless they were actually going to play football.

This was in my youth.

Just too young to be driving, or doing something in the car. Or it’s just how police are. It doesn’t last.

I live in a very wealthy part of town but things are going south very quickly even for the middle classes.

Young middle class kids are starting to be targeted, voilence/crime is spilling over into these areas and I would buy a gun to protect my home and family given a chance.

I fear a lot of people just don’t get the big picture.

Just look at the serious crime figures project those forward 5 or 10 years.

Still trying to persuade my wife we need to move out of London.

its the deluded ones that ignore the reality that is staring us in the face. London is a lot less fun than it used to be.
