Pathetic bottle job. As usual, the minute they come up against someone decent, they capitulate. The only reason people have been deceived into thinking they're any good is because the draw happened to fall so that that didn't happen until the semi-final. Even so they were a penalty kick away from losing in the second round as usual, after a performance which should have told anyone who saw it what was going to happen in tonight's game. Chris Waddle went on about how England needed "a creative player", one who could change a game, pull something out of the fire and do something about it when things were going Pete Tong. I think Ivory Coast have such a player. England meanwhile had two shots on target, have created practically f*** all from open play in the whole tournament, and kept picking Lingard, Sterling and Dele Alli long after they'd all shown that they couldn't hit a cow's arse with a f***ing banjo. Meanwhile, the only player that had shown decent finishing with any consistency - Kane - is pulled so deep that he needs a telescope to see the other lot's goal. This "coming of age" England is the emperor's new clothes.
We can't hit a barn door but we're the top scorers OK whatever

Can't help but think that domestic football calendar is ridiculously congested e.g. why not scrap Carabao Cup and bring in Winter break at XMAS time? To think that football season starts again in a month's time already.... This crops up after every England exit. How many of the France squad play in the Premier League? Genuine question, not rhetorical.

I wont join in the England bashing however disappointed I am with the result. Very proud that we did so much better than anyone dreamed we would.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

One other pertinent question is how many English players do we have playing abroad for top level clubs when we have foreign players flooding our Premiership and gaining great insight into English game?

I’m in two minds. 1) we got to semi final and never expected to. Got to experience something we never have before in my life that I could remember and was brilliant. 2) we beat Tunisia, Panama and Sweden in normal time and lost to the first marginally above average team we played. We kept playing underperforming players. Well never get an opportunity this easy again.

Why were our lads so knackered, yet their guys were still able to muster the energy to see things through ? Croatia played 2 prior games both went to extra time and penalties. Vida and Modric looked like they could go another 120. Will a winter break really help ? or is it all just BS ? Good observations and question. I think it's impossible to change Sterling or Dele Alli, a winter break wouldn't help. They just don't like to run and recover or aren't fast enought to do it. I mean, sure, Sterling is fast on short distances, but when the ball is at the opposition he just walks around on the pitch, looks like he's sick and on crutches trying to run !! You gave very good examples of Vida and Modric. 2 players over 30 years old but who always move into position and who have gotten used to running and fighting till the last breath. Mandzukic, Rebic and Perisic are warriors too.

It’s typical of this country, one minute England haven’t got a chance of winning the World Cup even before a ball is kicked. Then next minute the euphoria is that “Its Coming Home”. England did more than, France, Germany, Spain to name a few. Oh and let’s not forget the likes of Holland and Italy who never even made it through the qualifiers.

As for France I think we would have beaten them if we had reached the final.

I do wish people would read before they post. Go back and look at it again. I said that Dele Alli, Sterling and Lingard all repeatedly fluffed good chances. I also pointed out that Kane did not, so wondered why he was being dropped deep. England are only high up on the goals for count because of Kane, whom I did not criticise, and Panama, who were s***e.
