So glad we saved and rested our best players for tonight's game ... just imagine what a bigger heap of $hite it would have been if we hadn't!

At last! Pretty good penalties in general. Bring on the Swede - a tough game ass they will be solid but certainly not as niggly as Colombia were. Columbia were not "niggly"; they were a f***ing disgrace that made Argentina look like the pure driven snow. Disgusting display.

On paper England shouldn't require penalties to knock Sweden out; but then you would have said the same thing about a Columbia team that didn't turn up for the first hour and didn't bring James Rodriguez with them at all.

Agree. 11 dirty f*cking scumbags that got what they deserve , my little girl summed it up with “they just try to bully us and still end up losing, that’s why you shouldn’t be a bully”.

Thought we made hard work of a game we should have won easily? Wasn’t impressed with the substitutions as I thought the team became unbalanced with Dier in midfield alongside Henderson and Vardy uptop. Loftus-Cheek and Rashford were the obvious choices in my opinion. However, we got the result, so perhaps Southgate got it right?

Can't dismiss Sweden so readily, they are very good defensively, apart from that late Kroos winner, they have won their other 3 matches without conceding, plus our record against Sweden is poor. I think we will need a massive performance to beat them

Obviously a fantastic result, if not a fantastic performance and by getting to the quarter finals we have exceeded my expectations. The first team is the best that can be picked, although I'd replace Alli with RLC. The subs used showed that we haven't got a lot else past the first 11 or 12. The half time elbow on Sterling sums up Colombia perfectly. The ref really should have been harder on them, They actually played quite well at times when they cut out all of the crap.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

I agree that Colombia were a horrible, dirty side and should have had at least 1 player sent off but England were no angels. Henderson used the back of his head to headbutt a player and Young could easily have gone for the tackle he did where he got injured (somehow the ref gave the foul in his favour??). I thought the ref was quite poor and could have done a Cartman and asserted his authority much earlier in the match. I should add that I'm not knocking England but those incidents could have cost them the match with another ref so they need to be careful. Edited by johnno42000 (04 Jul 2018 10.41am)

Pickford is much taller than Ospina and has therefore a big advantage at penalties. Just my prediction, it;s possible that I'll regret it 5 minutes, but I dare it Pickford 6ft 1in...Ospina 6ft....dont think that inch made a lot of difference lol

It's a results business, and that'll do for me. In the face of non-stop provocation only Henderson and Lingard had a moment where they reacted badly. McGuire nearly did but I think it needed an occasion or two where we simply stood up to them. In Kane we finally seem to have a player that the refs want to protect.

The BBC expert commentators, who we cannot live without, were criticising Pickford for diving to his right and sticking his left hand up in the air. He did that in the shootout too, he is actually not very bright and just got incredibly lucky, once. Lady luck smiling on us (a welcome change).
