I suppose the Politics has to mean that everyone needs to be so far right wing that Adolf looked a lefty. So as you are not religious as evidenced in many posts, nothing to do with the Christian sect, the Church of England. Hate to be Catholic Tory, who does not own a bowler hat and umbrella. Silly. This is about self interest and how that plays out in elections and local politics. My interests are not necessarily the same as an immigrant. Social politics is already a farce. I can now be arrested in my own country for an increasingly absurd list of behaviour, all to appease minorities and allow the agenda of mass immigration to continue. Politeness to one's neighbour is one thing, misuse of the law for political reasons is another.

• Isn't that a bit sad, self-interested and one eyed? Isn't that a bit sad, self-interested and one eyed? You know I use to think a bit like this. I was raised to view everybody as equal, and in some ways this is still a belief I have today. Certainly, every individual deserves individual treatment based upon their character.....Your group shouldn't define you. However, I'm also quite an angry man....Because in reality growing up, in Stockwell, and having lived in various parts of London. There was no one in my family to teach me the more realistic balanced realities. That most people in working class areas aren't fuzzy liberals and instead have strong group attachments. I had to learn the hard way about this. In fact this is an ideology that is mostly a white middle class liberals thing.....a nice fuzzy way of thinking. You know one of the things that really p1sses me off about the left is that they are idealogs. They discount human nature and knock it....like you have here. Yet you can't change human nature and all you do is damage people when you try. Instead, it should be treat as you find. Be aware that people chose group identity most strongly....though this doesn't have to correspond to race. I don't want it to but I realise what happens statistically....anyway plenty of non white people see themselves as English and believe in behaving as such and that's good enough for me.
If you are moving into a country, then in my book you should integrate into it. You own it to that country....'when in Rome' and all that. If you are born and bred to be English or Scotlish or whatever then hell no.....It's called 'England'. Originally posted by SW19 CPFC
What actually is 'British culture' then, as I get the feeling that it's something that only exists in the minds of the into the green and pleasant fields and hide behind the hedge brigade. Before immigration, bar a few highlights Britain was as dull as dishwater. meat and two veg. Stiff upper lip. fag, pint and some darts down the pub. Getting pissed, fighting, polite chats with your neighbour about the weather (but for gods sake nothing else!), being aloof, uncompromising, publicly tolerant but privately scathing. Jesus. What a time to be alive. So, what exactly is culturally British in 2018? It's something that's hard to define , but it is certainly not the magical, almost puritanical nostalgia driven fantasy that it sometimes seems to be made out as on here, that really only ever existed in stories, films, and now in the imaginations of those over the age of 40, often to the detriment of others time and sanity. Sorry, but this really is post modernistic drivel. I'm 48, I know what English culture was growing up and I know what it is now. Would you go to Japan and say, 'So what is Japanese culture' then. Would you go to China and say, 'so what is Chinese culture then'? Would you go to an African country and say the same? It's the same mix of language, culture rituals and shared histories as it is for all countries. Originally posted by SW19 CPFC
Whether you like it or not, whatever you think it was is not coming back, and for you, running away from solutions and tying yourself firmly to your stake in the hedge is probably the best solution. Mmmmm....Depends on what you mean by, 'not coming back'. In a sense I agree, however in another sense things are very much in play. Originally posted by SW19 CPFC
Have you watched the recent Grenfell tower documentary on BBC iplayer? The community reaction to that (from all cultural and ethnic backgrounds, incidentally, again not that it really matters other than to make a point in this thread) made me proud to be British. That is what British looks like to me. The response from the government and council and the marginalisation of members of that community made me ashamed to be British. Ashamed to be British. Cool, I'm excited to know what country and nationality you are going to be changing to: pray tell. This way there is no need to be ashamed anymore. You can then celebrate your new nationality until you find something else to moan about. Originally posted by SW19 CPFC
If you flipped things round and put all the middle class and higher earners, who would probably mostly be white and 'Culturally British' as per statistics, on low salaries, multiple jobs and welfare, with poor education for their children, limited opportunities and borderline poverty, I think things would turn pretty sour pretty quickly. They wouldn't all be sitting around drinking cups of tea being terribly stoic and British. They'd be out stealing and stabbing with the best of them. Maybe in a slightly more strategic way as they've had the luxury of a privately educated, privileged background, but with the same outcome. Kind of like 'High Rise'. But for real.
Edited by SW19 CPFC (13 Jun 2018 1.47pm) There's some truth to the affordability point however the real reveals is the fact that when you look at where different demographics move to. Whites overwhelmingly move to high white areas and non whites move to non white areas. That cuts though the crap to the core. Edited by Stirlingsays (13 Jun 2018 2.47pm)

My dad (who is black) told me a funny story the other day. A family member was complaining to her school, there was a writing competition at the school. There were no black kids in the final 3. So she complained. The school were sympathetic, but told my cousin... that the 3 that won were picked on merit... my cousin wasn't having this, she spoke to a few other mums... they wanted to know why no black kids (Its a mainly black school) were in the final 3. The teacher that organised the comp... gave a list of pupils who entered the competition to my cousin... there were no black kids that entered the competition. The school thought this would be the end of it. My dad didn't put her straight.... she's not the type to accept she is wrong. I am 100% certain... that black kids in this country are a untapped resource.

He is and was a quality individual. However, educationally in my experience, he stood out as an outlier.

Being mixed race gives me a perspective on how both sides of my family value education... unfortunately, the black side of my family, don't seem to value it as much as the white side. We need to reject the current gang culture... black kids should be encouraged to have the same aspirations as white/Asian kids. In my experience... the problem is mainly (not solely) with black males... females seem to have a little more ambition.

So you will know the frustrations of white people when they highlight your stories and be deemed rascist. I've learnt alot my self lately mixing with alot of black kids and parents from my boys new football club. In my eyes they have broken the mould of the typical perceived black person. They all have good jobs affluent, polite and bloody nice people.

It's even stranger when you look at black kids in Africa - on all the Comic Relief, Sports Relief etc programmes, when they go out to poor African nations, all the interviews are with kids who will suffer any sort of hardship (walk 4 miles to get there) to get to school and get an education. When asked why, their answer generally is that they want to be a doctor, lawyer, surveyor and help to improve their country. It maybe is less a 'black' thing and more a 'family' thing as 7 mins says.

It certainly seems to be a cultral thing in the UK. I definitely think the "Black Community" lacks role models... and fathers in the home.

These are always tricky areas to talk about....especially since the left are a combination of social constructionists who ignore biological science and obsessed zealots who think they are hunting neo nazis. Hence most people keep their heads down. No one is to blame for their genetics (though this doesn't mean society should ignore them), however the poor cultural choices certain communities have taken on fully deserves the criticism that people like the great Larry Elder have made. Nothing will be done because the BS victim narrative is so strong with our politicians because it gives them votes from those communities....or in the case of right wing politicians it's a case of avoiding bad press from the baying press looking for a race based headline. Indeed the victim narrative is a very lucrative industry....affirmative action and diversity jobs are all a form of fraud that activists will strive for and fight tooth and nail to enact.....Indeed in America it's outright racism against asians and whites. For the race card....follow the money. Edited by Stirlingsays (03 Aug 2018 2.14pm)

I don't believe in affirmative action... the solution needs to come from black people... also we have to face some uncomfortable truths... facts don't care about feelings!

You are of course right......but the time for sorting out these problems are long gone. Basically the politicians fecked it all up as usual....plus the activists and community race baiting leaders of course. Edited by Stirlingsays (03 Aug 2018 3.03pm)
