Perhaps, although he was talked up by Steve and the 'best recruitment environment we've ever had' (or something like that). Hoping for a better performance from Dougie and his little black book this time round. 5 months in that role is a little early to write him off. They probably need to make and build contacts. If I were them I’d explore the contacts of the 3 established clubs about to be relegated. They will be looking for money too.

Good post. Every player, except Speroni was purchased whilst Parish was Chairman. They look like finishing high mid table in the toughest league in the world. That is not good enough for some they moan constantly about transfer windows, the squad not being good enough etc. Maybe some reflection on what has been achieved in the last few years is needed. And yet managers get extremely frustrated expected to perform miracles with only one leg or arm and walk. Now our local gentleman may stay I think it’s time Parish doesn’t take chances and I expect Parish and Roy think the same. That is the point!

It was Parish himself that gave the interview and made the comments about needing to learn lessons and do better. So the "for some" for which it is not good enough, includes Steve Parish. This point seems to be getting missed by some folks on this thread. The squad is not good enough, but its better than it was when we only had Joel Ward and Souare as full backs. Our performance in most recent transfer windows has been poor. RH actually publicly stated in a post match interview that the dealings in January were not the best he has ever seen. The intent of the OP is simply to highlight and expand on what Parish himself said. He said he needs to do better, and I wrote down areas where I think he can specifically do that.
Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha. |

This should be a time of rejoicing, not attacking our Chairman for actually admitting he has made a mistake or two. After freeing up money to buy Mutch and Lee for example you can understand him being cautious. What do people actually want? To complete expensive signings of people who then go on to be disasters? That is the policy adopted by Stoke and look what happened to them. Berahino anyone? Gianni Imbula? Wimmer? Many other clubs could produce a similar list, not least West Ham. It is an interesting exercise reading the transfer talk threads dating back to previous windows and seeing which players Palace fans were gutted to miss out on, and what failures they have been since. This is not a game off football manager, it is played with real money, which is not your money or mine.

Parish is nobody’s fool of course he is going to say he could do better, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t done a good job getting us where we are now.

Firstly there is an alternative and Parish could just say nothing which is something that many of us would prefer and secondly there was one player that was so desperate to sign for us in January that he caught a train over from Continental Europe at his own expense in the hope that we would sign him but as usual we were too late and it all fell through as we didn't give his club enough time to find a replacement. That was not the fault of the player or his agent but of our management

Good points made about learning as we go forward throughout this thread - and all (apart from the swipes0 seem to be coming from a positive, supportive place to me.

No, it has ranged from very good to not very good but never diabolically bad. The fans of every team in this league complain bitterly of a poor window. They can't all have a bad one? It is basically a valve that allows fans to blow off steam.

This is not a game off football manager, it is played with real money, which is not your money or mine. This..!! SP - says he recognises and accepts responsibility for mistakes earlier in the season - clear reference to the FDB fiasco. But he grasped the nettle and dealt with it - sacking FDB after 5 games and 77 days, when many pundits/critics some on here said it was too soon/too harsh a decision - our position at the end of the season proves him right..!! After a slow start under Roy our season has completely turned around - from 7 games, 7 defeats, no goals and the worst record in Europe on 2/10/2017 to safety with 2 games to spare - absolutely outstanding achievement..!! In that time if I am correct we have achieved the best goal difference outside the top 6..!! Culminating in a 5-0 drubbing of Leicester who were Prem Champions the season before last...!! At times against Leicester we looked like Barcelona - no wonder SP is loving watching us play.!! We have arguably the most influential game changer outside the top 6 in Zaha. Then we have had the approval for the redevelopment of the ground - taking us from c.26,000 to c.35,000. If it wasn't for our unprecedented injury list - at times this season we had a whole side injured and in the in the physio room - I'm sure we would have finished top 8. Our run since the "walking wounded" have returned to action supports that view. All this as someone said earlier in the thread were all but dead and buried and going out of existence 8 years ago..!! Our focus now needs to be maintain what we have, add some quality where we can - RLC, if we can take him on loan again, Guaita due to sign 1st July. Then need a striker personally I'd go Moussa Dembele - would be a great investment. Then I think we should go back in for Amadou - he was willing to sign in January, so why not now? Big thing is keep Zaha and build around him. Do this and we will be challenging top 8 next year if not top 6 and Europe for the first time in our history..! So now is a time for celebration of what we have achieved out of extreme adversity to where we are now and the future that is ahead of us. COYP
