Everton wanted him for 7 months to dig them out of a hole. Fair play he got a longer contract and I guess he will get another payout, more fool Everton's board. They may now get Silva but Sam won't help them out if there in trouble again Christmas. Arsenal may be his next club? Never say never!
He's getting about £6m to leave the job early. Well done to him. He will have no shortage of offers to save another club once managers start getting the sack in October next season. With the bonuses to stay up and the payoffs he'll be rolling in it.

He doesn’t react well to bad runs and ruts. But he’s only been at clubs lacking in back ups. Hull were done when they had the 3 injuries vs us after losing at home to Sunderland and Watford had a lot of injuries as well. He could be going to a club with more resources and with some better defending at corners some people could end up with egg on their faces. He’s certainly not shyte but the jury is out on how good he is because the 2 jobs he’s had have been unique. Hull, going down. Watford, trigger happy. He’s always wanted this size club or bigger so we’ll see. And there’s a difference between finishing 6-8th anyway and threatening to breakthrough that barrier and possibly staying there. They’ve probably looked at Spurs at some point and recognised how they’ve got the football in order before stadium. Pulis managed to train Delaney, Dann, Ward, Mariappa, Jedi, Leadley, Jerome, Chamakh to defend corners. Silva had no excuse for how abject Hull were at defending set pieces. We conceded 1 goal from set pieces I believe under Pulis. Hull conceded about 20 under Silva in a similar time frame. He may well do well at Everton, but he's still not brilliant and I'm glad he's not our manager.

His track record is continental football so it’s hardly surprising in this league that his teams were targeted at corners successfully. No one can tell how he’ll do at Everton is the truth of it.

One thing seems clear - if he fails at Everton, given his previous failures at Hull and Watford his reputation will take a hammering and he will probably have to go abroad to seek employment.Time will tell of course !

Take the money out of football and this might change and so might survive with whatever football it takes.

Yes the jury is out on him. I was just thinking hypothetically - If Hodgson had announced his retirement and Silva was being linked with us what do you think would be the reaction of our supporters ? Would they look at his record at Hull and Watford and cast aspersions or would they see him in a positive vein ? This is not a rhetorical question and I have no view either way. Edited by Willo (16 May 2018 10.52am) Possibly not a good choice with regards to our squad depth but he’d be taking over a disciplined team behind the ball and confident in possession so it would suit him more than people think. He was always the best choice out of the younger and fashionable ones available last summer but almost everyone ignored the best in Roy.

And Schlupp. Schlupp is arguably the one we could’ve avoided getting someone better if we had bought in the summer for essential areas in the first place and had done some scouting although PVA was probably unavailable then. We possibly could’ve gone the whole season with just 1 new LB signing but that may have kept Pardew for even longer causing more underlying damage. Sakho became more needed and we needed a def mid the minute Jedi waved goodbye to us against West Brom I think. All of Sam’s other 3 have been excellent with good management. Even Schlupp has some uses as wing/LB cover especially if PVA is also playing but you’d be consider selling if a promoted team came in for him and had some irons in the fire to replace him. Actually Pardew’s recruitment of players we did buy that summer was good. Benteke, Tomkins, Townsend. It was the management of them that wasn’t, especially Townsend and to a degree, Tomkins.
