Read his post about if soton are relegated. ...you don't think he's doing this just to wind people up and turn it into another Willo thread? Of course he is, and it's working a treat. We'll done Willo. To be fair, you may be right, but it takes two to tango, and if you didn’t respond then it wouldn’t turn into a Willo thread. I have expressed similarish views to Willo, look at Sunderland for example. I don’t share Willo’s views on Southampton being one of the favourites to come straight back up, or that Palace are more or less likely to come straight back up - but it is fair to say that the Championship is not an easy division to get out of and we want to avoid needing to get back up by not being relegated. I am an optimist. But I don’t see grounds for optimism if we get relegated. That said, I think we are close to putting this issue off for another season. But we need to either change the way we approach these issues or our time will run out. As far as I am concerned there are reasons why West Brom, Stoke and Southampton are where they are and there are similarities between the way they are run and the way we are currently going about things. We just seem to be much better at replacing our managers mid-season, but our luck will run out at some point.

I would hate to be robbed of Willo of course he is partisan Palace and a gent. Being opposite politically is just life. Free speech is essential optimism and negativity all par for the course. We have had a 'backs-to-the-wall' time in the Premier and Willo dreads relegation just like us, it's difficult to see how we could compete with the Man.City/Uniteds etc. with their riches so an ongoing battle is likely. Not without its excitement, and to the last. Opponents of Willo should justify their optimism, why are we so optimistic, what is the justification. If they analysed why, is it because Palace are actually a better team? I have never read that, mainly just rubbishing the opposition. Who then take some points off us.
The reason he rubs people up the wrong way half the time is not simply the negativity all the time, but the fact that it is never justified. He just says "according to my analysis", or presents a small and incomplete snapshot of stats. He consistently refused to share what his predictions were that saw us relegated so people made the obvious conclusion that he predicted us losing every game and other teams going on improbable runs. We all realise we might go down but at least other share their approaches in their thinking. For instance I don't think we will go down as our record against the teams we still have to play, and others of similar quality, is actually good and we should expect an average of 1.5 points a game (6 points). I think we'll get a win and 3 draws. Beat Leicester and draw the rest. Leicester have a disjointed dressing room and are just going through the motions. It was telling that Southampton, despite desperately needing a win, were pretty abject by all accounts last night. Their form, along with that of Stoke and the points deficit should be reason enough to make the current bottom 3 heavy favourites to go down.

I have acted with great dignity and restraint in the face of some virulent attacks and for this I deserve some respect and not be "Ticked off" in full glare of HOL like a naughty child sent to the corner in full view of his/her classmates, when a PM could have been used to deliver the message - Perhaps I should report that post to a moderator ! At the end of the day we have been fighting relegation all season, we are still in a relegation battle so is it any wonder that my posts are not infused with great dollops of positivity and my views have really been reflecting our plight ? One can accuse 'Yours Truly' of incessant negativity but this gives one an idea as to my sheer anguish at the possibility of relegation - how I wish we were well safe and I wasn't put through the absolute misery I have been experiencing.Just ask my dear wife ! One might fervently disagree with my viewpoint but they are honest and certainly not posted to merely raise hackles as has been suggested. Clearly the great and good have to glow with happiness regarding our position with unalloyed delight order of the day. With this in mind I shall refrain from posting any more on this thread.

When anyone digs into it you just come out with platitudes, quotation marks and needlessly pompous words. If you'd like to correct this I'd be interested to hear your analysis and see what predictions you have that end up with us relegated. Even a table with final points from Brighton down.

Clubs have more money (parachute payments have gone up a lot, and wealthy foreign owners have come in hoping to get into the PL - Wolves for instance). Better players are now playing in the Championship. It's also not easy to acclimatise first season back so you get fewer and fewer clubs managing to return at the first time of asking. It is however still the case that the clubs who are currently in the top 6 have all been in the PL relatively recently, with the exception of Millwall. In fact 4 of the top 6 we've played in the PL since coming up 5 years ago. Looking down the table there are only 4 other clubs in the Championship of which that is true, 3 of which (QPR, Sunderland and Hull) have had ownership issues. So it clearly does help to have recent PL experience (in the absence of mad owners) when it comes to trying to get promoted again. Looking at the relegation picture all of the clubs down there appear to be reasonably well run and I'd think unlikely to do a Sunderland.

Point is that I don't think you can ban people just for being irritating, and if you don't want threads turned into Willo threads, the simplest route is to just not respond to his comments. God, if you could be barred for being irritating, I'd never be allowed into a pub again!

That's more like it, an intetesting, reasoned debate.personally I think if you go down, your chances of bouncing straight back up depends on how many of your premiership players you can keep. If you loose half thd team, it could take you longer to re-build and go up again.

It’s not that simple is it. Message boards are designed to engage. That is why it is so insidious. It does not just turn into those that are either for or against trolley, but then sets those for or against arguing with each other. It is deliberate. We end up with the message board we deserve i guess.

It's not a threat to be banned for negativity. It is about trolling and hijacking any single thread of any substance. Long overdue imo. Originally posted by chris123

It is true that we have been battling relegation all season, but that doesn't tell the whole story.
